Milkshake Music Review and Giveaway (Ends 3/9)

Okay so I cannot take the Wiggles anymore so I have been searching for a replacement. My son loves dvds and so I had to find music cds for the car and dvds for home, with that I found Milkshake. What I like about Milkshake is that the songs are catchy and are sung by a woman. After the Wiggles, I need a break from male singers and their songs!

So let me first give you a little background on Milkshake:

Milkshake is a band dedicated to creating fun rock music for kids! They are led by singer Lisa Mathews and guitarist Mikel Gehl, who have a long-standing relationship with the entertainment industry. Their Indie rock group, Love Riot was a hit with adults for ten years and they have songs featured in movies and prime time tv. Also in the band is Michael Sheppard on electic guitar, Tom Moon on drums and Brian Simms on accordion and keyboard. Now Milkshake is singing their ways into the lives of children and the moms and dads who are forced to listen with them. Although I I am embarrassed to admit it but I do find myself singing their songs throughout the day or humming the music.

Milkshake has created original songs and videos for PBS Kids’ “Share the Earth Day” programming, Discovery Kids “ToddWorld, Noggin’s premier season of Jack’s Big Music and so much more. Other than just kids shows, they have also played in Gilmore Girls, and MTV’s Sweet Sixteen Party.

In 2007 they released their 3rd cd, entitled “Play!” which has songs about baseball, bowling, pretending, playing music, parades, planting a garden, and just going wild. The cd also includes 3 songs created for ToddWorld.I have found their music to be upbeat, fun, and catchy. The true test though is how does my 24 month old like it? Well…..he loves it! A woman singing caught him at first off guard I think and then he started dancing. So yeah we have some new music!

So other than the cd, Lisa from Milkshake was nice enough to send me a dvd to check out entitled “Screen Play.” This dvd was released in the fall of 2008 and is full of live-action and computer-animated videos, backstage with the band moments, and just all the members having fun. It also includes two videos created for PBS Kids and in-concert footage from Noggin hit “Bottle of Sunshine.”

I love that I can watch my son get up and dance and while I sing and we have fun together. Lisa is an especially great role model for girls as she shows that you can have fun being yourself and she wears awesome tutus! The guys in the band are also very fun and entertaining and you can just tell that everyone is having fun. Nothing is forced or staged and the songs are about stuff kids love. My son’s favorite song is “SuperHero” but he really does shake his little butt to all of them. I am so happy there is some music that we both can enjoy that doesn’t make me go crazy.
Now that you are probably curios you can click the video below to watch a clip and see what I am raving about:

Think your kids will love Milkshake too!? I mean with pink tutus and blue hair you can’t go wrong! Milkshake music is available at Borders, Barnes & Noble and other fine stores nationwide, but you can also purchase it on their website here. Milkshake also does live performances which you can check out their schedule at the Milkshake website. Other than their website, Milkshake also has their own Facebook page (if you become a fan you get an extra entry!) You can check out pictures, videos, and even listen to song excerpts.

Win it: I have a copy of Milkshake cd “Play!”, their “Screen Play” dvd, and a cool Milkshake comic book!
