Seagate FreeAgent Go Portable Hard Drive and Dockstar ($200 value) Review & Giveaway! (Ends 3/19)

Have you ever been bugged by your family for pictures of your children or been away from home and realized you needed a photo from your home computer? Now I am terrible at printing photos and giving them to my parents and in-laws and even with the technology of blogs and photo sharing websites, I still slack off and don’t upload as much as I should. Well Seagate has an awesome product available that makes it easy to share your photos, music and movies with your friends and family.

The FreeAgent DockStar is a compact dock which allows the Seagate FreeAgent Go portable drive and most USB storage devices to be shared on your local network or accessed remotely via the Internet.

Setting up your FreeAgent DockStar is super easy and user friendly. Simply plug in two cables (Ethernet cord and power cord) and then you go online to activate and it will automatically configure your DockStar via a Pogoplug account. Once activated, everything is displayed in a clean and organized web-based interface. There is no special software required either. To access your Dockstar, you just log on to Pogoplug either by typing in the specified web address in your browser or you can download a program onto your computer. I tried out both and I honestly prefer the web version, but they are basically the same thing. As a side note, the Pogoplug service is required to share your content outside of your home network and can be purchased with a subscription fee, but a 1 year subscription automatically comes with the Dockstar. If you don’t want to pay for the Pogoplug service after a year, you can use your Dockstar within your home network for free to view your content while on different computers at home.

You can also intergrate your DockStar with your favorite social media sites and even publish easy RSS feeds. Whenever you add files to a particular folder, they are automatically updated on your social media page, so you don’t have to waste time uploading them to the Internet or emailing them to friends and family, notifications of updates will be automatically sent (if desired).
