Sweet Tomatoes / Souplantation Review (& Giveaway – 2 Winners Ends 9/15)

ABOUT:

Souplantation started in 1978 in San Diego and soon after Sweet Tomatoes was born to represent new restaurants outside of Southern California.  The restaurants both are dedicated to fresh, wholesome ingredients in a casual eatery setting.

Currently there are 112 company-owned restaurants in 15 states that have served over 300 million guests since 1978.  They are #1 in fresh product and salads, made from scratch soups, hot tossed pastas, freshly baked breads and muffins, fresh fruit, frozen yogurt, and more!

MY THOUGHTS:

What I love about Sweet Tomatoes is that every two weeks the chefs cook up international inspired recipes to change up parts of the menu.  For example, for September it is Greece and Mexico themed, so there will be some soups, pastas, and other light dishes that have a Greek or Mexican taste.  Now I am pretty boring and like my regular menu items, which I can always count on to be on the menu, but every now and then I do like to try a new salad or soup.  It is exciting to check out the menu ahead of time and visit the restaurant when I see something I really want to try or like, or maybe nothing appeals to me  so I wait a few weeks for the next international menu theme.

Coming Up:

Greece: September 1-14

Lemon Chicken Orzo Soup (a guest favorite!)

Whole Gran Greek Couscous with Feta and Pine Nuts

Mexico: September 16-28

Azteca Taco Tossed Salad

Chicken Enchilada Soup

I honestly could eat at Sweet Tomatoes everyday if my husband let me, unfortunately he is a big meat eater and the only item with meat is the chili I think!  My sons love it because there really is so much to choose from and everything is so fresh and delicious.  First, when you enter the restaurant you make your salad plate and we are never shy!  You can come back in line if you like but I usually grab two plates so I can one regular salad with ranch and then on the other I add some light pre-mixed salads and other cold items.  Next, we usually grab soup (there is usually about 6 to choose from), then grab some fresh bread and butter, foccacia pizza is next then pasta (usually three choices), maybe a baked potato with all the fixings if I want and then I repeat!  Sweet Tomatoes is actually one of the few restaurants I have never had a problem at, the food and service is always wonderful.  The prices are also reasonable for how much you can get from salad to soup, to pasta to dessert!  I also want to add that Sweet Tomatoes /Souplantation is not only for vegetarians!  I love meat, but I also love greens and you would be amazed how much you can find on the buffet there!

The lemon greek pasta but really all of it sounds so yummy! I’d visit there much more often if I could get the family to go. They like salads but they are much more interested in big slabs of beef or scads of seafood. Cretins.

My husband doesn’t like Sweet Tomatoes, either – same reason (well – he says it’s too expensive when they don’t have meat). I could eat there every day!
