Perrigo Nutritionals Infant Formula Review #Myblogspark

ABOUT:

A study conducted by Perrigo Nutritionals shows that only 30% of moms are willing to buy store brand products for their babies; however all infant formulas made in the United States must meet FDA requirements for safety, nutrition and quality.  Store brand formulas are nutritionally equivalent to similar national formula brands such as Enfamil or Similac, but cost half the price, with a savings of about $600 a year.

Here are some more statistics from the study:

  • Baby-related advertisements strike an emotional chord with moms – nearly one in four feel overwhelmed (23%) and one in five feel anxious (20%) or confused (20%)
  • 53% of moms admit thoughts of their baby product budget plague them on a daily basis
  • 37% of moms feel guilty if they cannot afford a specific product for their babies
  • Moms are willing to purchase store brand over the counter medicine for their baby (42%) and store brand pharmaceuticals (44%), but only 21% of moms are willing to buy store brand infant formula.

MY THOUGHTS:

With my first child, after breastfeeding for as long as I could, I bought only name brand products for a few months.  Then I remember reading something about store brand formulas being the nutritional equivalent and I figured we’d try it out.  I then became a store brand exclusive shopper when I saw how much money we were saving ($25 for name brand vs. $13 for store brand formula) and how well Aidan was growing.  Between my three kids, I have used store brand versions from whatever store I was in.  I love that I didn’t have to break my budget or hope for a coupon, store brand versions have always been super affordable.  My favorite is probably the Target Up & Up brand because I am always at Target anyway and they have a giant canister available so it lasts longer!

I can also understand how only 30% of moms buy store brand products as I felt like a bad mom when I first started buying “generic” formula.  After much research though and after comparing the formulas it is amazing how they are pretty much the same!  I also trust that the FDA wouldn’t approve a store brand formula if it was not nutritious for babies.  I highly recommend trying out store brand formula with your baby or even talk to your pediatrician about it.  Now there are even different versions of store brand formulas just like the name brand ones.
