MY THOUGHTS:

Every January I am usually scrambling to get all of our tax documents together and every year I tell myself I am going to get a better system for next year!  I have tried keeping everything together in a envelope but then the envelope gets misplaced and I tear apart our office looking for it.

Everyone should really have a Waterproof Fire-Safe to keep everything together, organized and safe!  First off, its not like you can loose it or misplace it!  Second, water-proof and fire-proof means it should be safe no matter what.   A Sentry Safe is one you can trust and I really can’t imagine now how I lived without it!

I decided to get my Sentry Safe ready for next year by creating a Tax Time Survival Kit!  I included a calculator, pencils, file folders and a notepad.

Not only is a SentrySafe perfect for tax documents but all those other important documents such as birth certificates, house documents, social security cards and more!  I will say this particular model is heavy (about 40 pounds) but for the safety of my contents I’d rather be safe than sorry.  The latch is a key-latch but it is pretty thin and basic – its not really meant to keep a thief out but rather keep out fire and water.  I am not really worried about it getting broken into so I don’t mind the simple key.

Overall, I highly recommend checking out a SentrySafe to protect your documents and keep you organized.  I don’t know what I would do if we had a fire and lost everything.  Also, I found this model to be a perfect size for everything with room to spare of what I wanted to put in it.  We used to have a small lockbox that I stored everything in but it was so small that we outgrew it.  A bigger safe allows you to protect more and keep it organized.

  96. I’m not very organized except on the computer. I have the best set up ever here, but not with my papers, which are strewn all over the place. When it eventually gets out of hand, I actually decide to do something about it :-) Perhaps that happens every 4-5 months or so…. maybe I should do it today though!

    The safest my stuff is is that EVERYTHING is in my purse. If my house burnt down, the first thing I’d grab would be my purse… OK – so my purse would be the 2nd thing – first I’d grab my embroidery machine. So, if I’m alive, all my papers are safe with me. If I die in the fire, well.. then it doesn’t matter anyway.

    I have a safe, but since I am notorious for losing things, I am afraid to use it! So I have a jewelry box that holds all my important papers.

  262. We have about 3 file folders plus a paper case full of my boyfriends workers comp paperwork. Its pretty unorganized. Then we have a two draw filing cabinet in which nothing is actually filed and we can never find the important crap when we need it!

I’ve never been able to afford a safe, so I just have my passport, tax returns, and social security card sitting around on a shelf. I finally managed to put the majority of documents in a backpack which I hide under my bed (probably shouldn’t advertise my location :)) and I definately could use some assistance in this area.   331. I don’t currently keep our important documents and files safe – however, I do have them all grouped together. I’ve been wanting to get a small safe like this for quite some time – I’ve seen them at Costco – but didn’t need the big ones they sell, just something to hold our important papers (taxes, birth/marriage certificates, social security cards, and the external hard drive for the computer).
