MY THOUGHTS:

My boys (4 and 5) are just learning their letters and spelling and I have been looking for something I could hang up on the wall that would appeal to both of them.  The Letter Box Activity Set from Learning Resources is a product that really is versatile for young kids.  It features a heavy duty vinyl chart that clings onto a magnetic surface (or you could hang it via holes) and then opens to display the Letter of the Day and flash cards associated with that letter.

Now I will say when I read the description for this product I didn’t catch that it needed to go on a dry-erase board surface as the spot where you write the letters is open.  So I went to my local Walmart and was able to buy a perfect sized dry-erase board for about $8 and I then stuck the Letter Box right onto it.  You could also stick it to your white refrigerator if you don’t mind your kids using a dry erase marker on it.

I love using this board as a “Letter of the Day” teaching tool.  My boys pick a letter and then we find the flash cards that associate with the letter.  There are even eight blank cards that you can use the dry erase marker on and dry your own cards.  My boys are having a blast with this board and it is such a simple product that both my preschooler and kindergartener can appreciate.  This would be perfect for a teacher too, but honestly as a parent I think it is in-valuable too!  My boys are excited every morning to pick a letter and then we work on that letter all day.

Some blank ones too so you can draw your own pics with the dry erase marker:

Words on the back of cards:

So once again, the Letter Box is an awesome product that we love, but do keep in mind it needs a dry erase surface purchased (or attached to) separately to write the letters on.  Oh and the other suggestion I would make is that it doesn’t have anywhere to store the extra cards which would have been nice, so we have them all in a zippered pouch on the shelf next to it.   I would recommend this product for anyone.
