So I never really thought about owning a projector before, but after trying out the 3M Projector for two weeks, I don’t want to live without it! Say goodbye to the days of clunky big ole’ projectors, and hello to the 3M Projector that fits in your purse (or bag.) This projector is seriously awesome! First off setting it up was super easy, just plug in your iPod with the included AV cable for Apple devices and turn it on! I will say for whatever reason my husband’s iPhone wouldn’t work with it (probably because the connectors inside his phone are dirty) but I had no problem getting our iPod Touch to work with it. If yours won’t work, make sure you check the video output setting as I found for my device it was set to Off and I had to change it to On. The unit does have a rechargeable battery which holds a charge of about two hours but I tended to always have it plugged in since most movies are about two hours. A rechargeable battery is nice though if you are outside or even in a meeting and don’t have an outlet nearby. This thing is seriously portable and lightweight!
I have only tried this with Apple devices so far but you can buy an Composite or Component AV cable (optional accessory) to hook up your 3M Projector to your camcorder, digital camera, DVD player and other digital media player. Want to hook it up to your computer? You can also buy a VGA cable to connect your desktop computer, laptop, or PDA.
Some ways I have used our 3M Projector this summer:
- Movies on the garage door (kids loved sitting outside watching a movie!)
- Movies on wall in their bedroom and basement
- Photos for my grandma on her wall (she struggles to see the iPad screen but had no problem seeing the pictures on her wall from the projector)
Other uses I wish I had time to try:
- Games (I read you can play a big Angry Birds game!)
- My husband has been begging to take it to work with him for presentations
- Use at our holiday party to show pictures in the background
Overall, I love this Projector from 3M. I see so much value from a mom being able to show family pictures or movies for her kids, to a teacher displaying something for her class, to an associate (or student) giving a presentation. This is something that the whole family can enjoy and benefit from. I was honestly surprised at how much we used at home, although it is so much color to watch a movie on that then our boring television. The quality too is awesome – there is even a focus wheel on the front to sharpen the image if you need to. The volume is not the loudest but I am pretty sure you could hook up speakers to it if you wanted to go all out. For movies at home, it was fine. I would recommend a tripod too for it as even though it has a little flip stand, a tripod would make me feel safer having it propped. For around $200 I think the 3M Mobile Projector is a great product. The portability and ease of use are what sells me on it, not to mention the quality is great (and not grainy like I expected.)
