Customizable Homepage: Shiny Search

Shiny Search is a customizable homepage search engine that utilizes Google. When you first reach Shiny Search’s homepage, you are asked to pick a style and input your name. I selected ‘Penguins’ and a screen appeared that was almost identical to ‘Google’ but in the place where it says ‘Google’ were 4 penguins with a letter on each spelling out my name. It was very cute and neat that it was customized for me. There are so many background templates to choose from and very easy and quick to change. Some backgrounds that are available are Mickey Mouse, Hello Kitty, seasonal designs, animals, science, and that is just the beginning!

I completed a search in both Shiny Search and Google and I received the same results because Shiny Search button actually says “Google Search.” You can also set Shiny Search as your homepage so whenever you open your Internet browser it automatically loads your customized Shiny Search page. Since it is actually a Google search then why not have a fun homepage if you are going to have Google as your homepage, which is what was my homepage before I changed it. There are quick links to common websites, such as Yahoo, MSN, CNN, MySpace, Ebay, Amazon, Weather, Mapquest, Yellow Pages, and more. You can also click the tab for your email as there are about 23 popular email clients listed.

The best part about Shiny Search is there is nothing to sign up, no fields to input, and if you want it as your homepage there is instructions on how to change it via your computer.
