Family Movie to check out: "All Roads Lead to Home"

So now that our son is getting older, he will be 2 in January, my husband and I are learning that we have to be careful what we watch. I love horror movies and he loves fighting movies and both are definitely inappropriate for our son. I already noticed that he acts a little more aggressive when he catches some of the UFC fighting my husband is watching or that he has bad dreams if he sees something scary.

We have also learned that there are many movies we can watch together as a family. Now my son doesn’t sit and watch the whole movie, nor do I want him too at his age but I think if he is going to watch something on tv it might as well be something wholesome yet still entertaining. So we have started watching more family orientated movies both children’s and adult’s genres and we have set aside one night a week for this. Usually it is a Friday night since we have two kids, our other son is only 6 months old, and we don’t go out anymore! We either order in some sausage pizza or we pop some movie butter popcorn and “veg” out on the couch. I know 2 year olds should not have popcorn but I pick apart the fluffy parts and he loves it!

I hope we can continue this tradition as they get older and with tv being such a big part of today’s world it really can be another tool for spending family time, especially when it is so cold out!

I recently came across the movie “All Roads Lead Home” and think it is a great family movie for all ages. It is about a coming of age girl (12 years old) whose mother dies and she is struggling with her father and brother. Belle is sent off to live with her grandparents in the country, where she learns that family is important and how to deal with growing up. She struggles there with her grandfather as she reminds him so much of her mother. She has dogs that become her best friend and she encounters some other animals while living on her grandparent’s farm. This movie is also based on a true story and has parts in it that everyone can relate to. I really feel that even my husband would watch this because he likes the actor Peter Coyote, who also starred in more than 90 movies!

Even though this movie is about a young girl, a think boys can also relate to what she is feeling and going through as she sees her family falling apart and changing. To name a few other stars there is Jason London, Vivien Cardone, and Vanessa Branch. If you are looking for a new movie for your family night, I recommend “All Roads Lead to Home” and if you have seen it or after you do, come back and leave me a comment what you thought about it. I would love to know what families of young girls think when they watch it, if it is something they can relate to and enjoy. It comes out on dvd on January 13th, but you can pre-order it now. If you want to read about the movie you can visit the movie’s webpage at All Roads Lead Home The Movie.
