New Tutoring Site called "Brightstorm"

I just received the opportunity to sample a new educational reference site called “Brightstorm.” It is a site where you can watch videos pertaining to a specific class where real teachers are talking directly to you. It is similar to a podcast but these are longer clips and educational.

The courses available are Geometry, Algebra II, SAT Writing, SAT Math, AP U.S. Government, AP U.S. History, Writing, SAT Critical Reading, and U.S. History. Then each class has at least two different teachers to view, since we all learn with different techniques. This is a great site for any parent of a high school student who needs extra help. Brightstorm is perfect because the student can view the videos on their own time at home at their pace. You can choose which video you want to watch and pause it or replay it. You can try a sample episode for free from each of the nine classes and if you want more episodes you can purchase a 12-month subscription to a specific class for $49. The videos run anywhere from 10-30 minutes and before you purchase anything you can view a description and lengths of class sessions. There is also an area where a student can post questions or comments and every class has bonus material with print outs, problems, and more explanations.

Even though my kids are still young I am always trying to stay on top of learning websites and other references as I have six younger siblings who ask me questions. I also have a sister who has a learning disability and if this website was around four years ago I think it could have really helped her. She was forced to go to Sylvan Learning Center, which don’t get me wrong it definitely helped, but I think the online video approach would have suited her more. With more and more students using computers and technology, I think Brightstormis a new and unique program that can make learning fun and easier.
