Recall on Fisher Price Rainforest Portable Play yard

So I am one of those moms that tries to match things when I can and the Fisher Price Rainforest collection was one of my obsessions. I have the full swing, bouncer, highchair, playmat, assorted matching toys, and the playpen. Ah the playpen….Well as soon as my son was able to really move around and stand up in the playpen he would pull crazily on the sides. After a few times the stupid playpen would not stay right anymore. I called Fisher Price who told me that yes there name is on the product but actually it was made and is warranted by another company, Simplicity Inc. So I then called Simplicity Inc. and a very mean woman explained to me that I had to take it completely apart and then put it back together. I did that and it seemed to help but in the back of my mind I was always worried that it would collapse again and my son would tumble out.

Since we couldn’t afford a new one, we decided to just make sure we were always watching our son while he was in there. Luckily we have not had any real problems since but now with our second child using it, I know it is only a matter of time before he is hanging on it. I mean these companies know what kids are going to do it them and they really should build them to withhold some rough housing. So anyways low and behold when I checked my email tonight, I received a recall notice from CPSC which is a great free service that sends out all recalls to the areas you select. You would be surprised but there really is not too many recalls so its not like I get bombarded with emails.

Anyways, my wonderful matching Fisher Price portable play yard has been recalled due to the side rails collapsing and kids falling out and getting injured. There has been at least 1,350 reports of one or more of the side rails collapsing. So thank you everyone that has called and complained, our voices were heard. Even sending an email to a company puts out the word about a shady product. Simplicity is not talking about the problems, but Fisher Price has volunteered a $100 refund after cutting up and mailing part of the play yard. So if you have this play yard stop using it immediately or at least watch those side rails. Luckily, we do now have an extra one so rather than purchase a new one with my $100 refund I will put it towards some other much needed baby necessities!

  • It is a pain as you have to pretty much cut it up the whole playpen and send them the pieces. But we have an extra one so it is nice that I will be getting $100 for it.
