Picking Pennies Off the Ground: How my mom and I are alike

In honor of Parent Bloggers Network and Johnson & Johnson, I am going to write about my mother. Mother’s Day of course has something to do with it too! The idea of the post is to write about what I have inherited from my mother.

The first thing I have inherited from my mother is my overall appearance. I have dark brown wavy hair, blue eyes, and the same skin color. You can definitely tell that we are mother and daughter. My next inherited trait is our love of family. She has five kids and while I don’t necessarily want five, I do want 3-4 kids. Next come our mannerisms. The way we gesture, react, and think is also very similar, if not identical. We also share a love for biographies and true crime stories. Rather than watch comedies and dramas together, we watch A&E and True Story movies.

I have also inherited my mom’s patience and stubbornness. When we do fight, we don’t give in that quickly to each other and my dad usually has to nudge us into talking to each other. My favorite trait though that we share is our love of saving money and finding money. I actually take more after my grandmother (mom’s mom) as far as rebates and free items, but my mom used to be good but then had 5 kids and got too busy! A funny moment though that we shared was one time my husband and I were walking in Vegas with my mom and dad. My mom and I were walking ahead and kept finding pennies on the ground and were fighting (friendly of course) over who picked up the pennies! What we didn’t know was that my dad was the one throwing them!

My dad says that everyday I look and act more and more like my mother. My husband laughs and always makes fun of us too, but I don’t mind it. I could probably go on and on about similarities to my mother and I, as now that I think of it we are very alike.
