Book Review: "Faces in the Fire" by T. L. Hines

My favorite genre of books is mystery and genre books, and one of my new found authors is “T. L. Hines.” Maybe you read it, or maybe you missed it, but I reviewed his last book “The Unseen.” (You can read that review here.) Anyways, his current book “ Faces in the Fire” was just released this past July and it is a page turner. The book is considered “supernatural versus mystery” and that is exactly what it is. Now normally I don’t like anything supernatural or involving ghosts, but this book really doesn’t focus on either. It involves four individuals who meet by a twist of fate basically.

It is interesting how the story focuses on a single individual and then the story moves to how another person is affected. The book is a 400-page paperback and it is bizarre but intriguing. The book reminds me of the John Cusack movie “Identity.” With twists and turns and “a-ha” moments, I enjoyed the book. The other part that I didn’t like was how the book repeated itself and it felt like de-javu in certain parts.

Overall, Faces in the Fire was a good read and it read especially quickly for me. I liked the different characters and the different story line.

Book Description from the Publishers website:

Four lost souls on a collision course with either disaster or redemption. A random community of Faces in the Fire.

Meet Kurt, a truck-driver-turned-sculptor with no memory of his past. Corinne, an e-mail spammer whose lymphoma isn’t responding to treatment. Grace, a tattoo artist with an invented existence and a taste for heroin. And Stan, a reluctant hit man haunted by his terrifying gift for killing.

They don’t know each other, at least not yet. But something–or someone–is at work in the fabric of their lives, weaving them all together. A catfish, a series of numbers scribbled on a napkin, a devastating fire, and something mysterious. Something that could send them hurtling down the highway to disaster–or down the road to redemption. But they won’t know which is which until they’ve managed to say yes to the whispers in their souls.
