On our first patio table we had a basic (cheap) patio umbrella. I don’t remember if it came with the table or really where we got it, but it was light and flimsy. We kept saying we were going to replace it, but we did not get that chance. Now first I must say that my husband was (is) awful at closing the umbrella when we are done sitting at the table, so it was regularly open. So of course the first big windy storm we had, yanked that umbrella right off the table, and off it went soaring through the air into our neighbors yard a few doors down! We did get it back, but it did have a tear and we figured it was the best time to throw it away and get a fresh one.
Now little did I know, but there are a whole bunch of patio umbrella styles to choose from! One that I came to like are called market umbrellas, which basically means it has a straight edged canopy instead of hanging fabric valances. Oh and the best part is they usually have a wind vent at the top of the umbrella to release air from a gust of wind, just in case! They are just so crisp and clean looking, and best of all they look durable and sturdy. We ended up with one of these styles and so far so good for us!
If you have a large backyard or table though, you may want to consider large umbrellas. They cover a considerably large area to extend the cool zone of your area. For whatever reason a large umbrella also seems to be a party hangout since it is so inviting and open. Luckily we don’t have a big yard so we didn’t need one, since they are more expensive, but my parents have one and it is definitely nice to have everyone comfortably cool off under instead of squeezing together under a regular sized one!

If you want to improve your garden’s aesthetics, consider getting a patio umbrella. Base bronze umbrellas can do just the trick to make your backyard look classy yet homey. Of course, you have to have matching patio furniture and a well-landscaped yard, too.
