Musselman’s Apple Sauce Easter Crafts!

Musselman’s Apple Sauce in my house is a everyday staple, right along with milk and bread.  My sons love it!  They would eat the whole jar in one sitting if I let them!  Well other than eating it plain, we have also added in fruits and raisins, mixed it in with recipes, and now there are even crafts you can do with it!

In celebration of Easter and Spring Time, Musselman’s has come up with two adorable crafts that include their apple sauce!  So for Easter this year not only will I have a bowl of apple sauce to pass around but for the kids we are going to make Bunny-Face Side Dishes and for everyone there will be Bunny Place Cards!

Bunny-Face Side Dish

Ingredients:
1/2 cup Musselman’s Apple Sauce (per person)
1/2 cup any flavor yogurt (per person)
Edible decorating extras (raisins, nuts, coconut, dried fruit, candies, licorice, etc)
Printed sheet of bunny details (right click on the images below and select “save as” to download the files to your computer)

Instructions:

Give each child a small dessert-size bowl. Add ½ cup of yogurt to ½ cup of Musselman’s Apple Sauce (or equal parts) for each bowl. (This creates the perfect texture for adding your decorations.) Use your favorite edible extras to create a silly bunny face in the bowl. Let your kids be creative! Cut the bunny ears and bow tie from the sheet provided and let the kids color. Tape them to the outside of the bowl, and voila now you have a healthy side-dish that’s more fun to eat!

You can also create a larger serving-bowl size bunny face to place on the Holiday Dinner table.

Bunny Place Cards  (for decoration only – not edible)

Craft Supplies:

1/2 cup Musselman’s Apple Sauce

1/2 cup + 2 Tbsp cinnamon (one 2.37 oz. bottle)

Waxed Paper

Bunny Cookie Cutter  (for other holidays use a different cookie cutter!)

Paint pens/Glitter pens

Instructions:

Stir together Musselman’s Apple Sauce and ½ cup cinnamon until the dough becomes stiff.  Knead the dough with your hands for several minutes until it holds together and is completely incorporated.  (If the mixture is a bit wet, add 1 Tbsp of flour and knead until you don’t see any remaining white flour.)

Place the ball of dough on a sheet of waxed paper and flatten it slightly with your finger.  Place a second sheet of waxed paper over the top of the dough and roll it out to about ¼ inch think.  Use the bunny cookie cutter to cut out the dough (makes 4 bunnies).

Place bunnies on a cookie sheet that has been sprinkled with 2 Tbsp of cinnamon and bake at 200 degrees for approx 2 hours.  Turn bunnies over several times during baking to ensure they dry evenly and the edges don’t curl.  Brush off the excess cinnamon and let air-dry overnight on cooling racks before decorating.

Once bunnies are completely dry, have some family decorating fun.  Use a paint or glitter glue pen to write each person’s name on a bunny and use them as place cards on your Holiday Dinner table.

Tips:

For an extra special sparkle, add glitter to the dough before rolling out.

Decorate your bunny creations with acrylic paint, ribbons, or fabric.

To add extra strength to the craft, add 1 Tbsp of white craft glue to the dough.

So I don’t have pictures of our creations because we are going to do our egg coloring and these Easter crafts the Friday night/Saturday before Easter.  I just really wanted to get these crafts up for you ladies in case you wanted to do them with your kids for Easter!

Even if you don’t have time for the crafts, Musselman’s Apple Sauce is still a great side dish for dinner or any other time!
