Okay so you may have noticed that I do a few iPhone apps for kids reviews. I got my iPod Touch when it first came out after falling in love with my husband’s iPhone. Since we couldn’t afford (nor did I need) two iPhone plans, I figured an iPod Touch was the next best thing. I never in a million years realized how valuable it would be for my kids! I figured I would use it for music in the car, photos to sow people, and donwload games for myself. Little did I realize that my 3 year old would take it over from me! And you know what, I am fine with that as long as it keeps him happy and quiet.
First I put a few videos on it for him to watch, for example when we are at a restaurant or just waiting somewhere. Then, I realized all the apps geared towards kids! There are interactive storybooks, games based on favorite characters (Dora, Spongebob, Toy Story…), there are memory games, and tons of games designed perfectly for pre-schoolers. I have a few number and letter apps and I really think they are helping Aidan. He is recognizing the letters and numbers more and even though it is on an electronic device, it is still progress I think. I also love how easy it is to use and how Aidan is already tech-savvy! I think if he knew my password he would be shopping on the iTunes store!
Even though there are so many games and apps available, I download as many as I can fit and see which ones Aidan likes. Then I will take them off and maybe add them in back later, basically rotating them. I love though that I can get what I need from my iPod Touch and share it with my son, and it is a lot easier than carrying around a portable video game system, DVD player, books, and other little toys! I would also recommend a good case and screen protector, and an accidental warranty if possible. Oh and supervision of your child and device if you are worrying about them damaging it, my son is used to it and very careful (most of the time!)
Some of Aidan’s Favorite Apps:
WordWorld
Jelly Car
Spongebob TIckler

I love my itouch too and have to admit that my 3 year old uses it more than I do. He loves the spongebob tickler too.
There are so many other apps out there that he enjoys and learns a lot from. He is so good using it too. He finds games he wants on his own and even knows how to go through the youtube section. Like your son, if he knew my password, he would buy all the apps on his own.
