Camping or a Resort?

So I was thinking of little trips we could take as a family that would be fun yet affordable.  We did go to Disney World in February but I feel like I want to take a weekend trip somewhere as a family, especially since my 2 year old didn’t come to Disney World with us.  So I am challenged with finding something that both my husband and I can enjoy as well as my two and three old sons.  Oh and it has to be reasonably priced since we have already taken our big vacation for the year.

So I have a few ideas in mind, one being heading up to the nearby indoor water park resort this fall and the other being my husbands idea – camping.  Now I have complained about how I am not an outdoorsy person before but really I’m not.  I hate bugs, animals, dirt, and no fresh water.  Now I know there are different versions of camping and honestly I would be fine with staying in a camper or something, but sleeping in a tent on the ground just does not sound appealing to me.  Plus there is the fact that we don’t have any camping gear and I don’t really know anyone we can borrow some from.  I would hate to buy some gear and then find we don’t like it or bought the wrong items.  Knowing my husband, he would buy everything and anything for camping!  We will probably end up going to the resort because I think it will be cheaper and easier with the two kids than getting camping gear, finding somewhere to camp, and dragging it all to a campsite.  I also wouldn’t sleep probably because I would be afraid my boys would wander the camping grounds in the middle of the night!

What age works for you and your kids for camping?

  • Having just got back from camping, let me say that it means the kids always have something to do--climb, explore, and if nothing else, throw stuff in a campfire. We never had an "I'm bored" or a "keep it down" moment which was so nice!

However, my two year old woke up at 3:30 am crying and wouldn't go back to sleep one day and we did get lots of scrapes from tumbles while exploring. That part I could do without!
