Check out RepairPal before you get your car repaired next time!

One area where I think a lot of people overpay is through car repairs.  Many people, myself included, don’t know better and are trusting the auto mechanic’s recommendations and that they are giving us the best possible price.  Well that is not even close to true.  For example, my brother needed a new windshield, one place wanted $330 and another wanted $360.  I am always amazed how much prices can differ from place to place, especially for the same procedure or part.  Now of course you pay for what you get, but that doesn’t mean you have to totally overpay and I don’t know about other big cities but Chicago auto repair centers can be expensive!

In comes RepairPal to save the day!  RepairPal is a website that gives independent and unbiased repair estimates, user ratings and reviews, plus advice!  You can Get an Estimate, Find a Repair Shop, Get Car Info, and Track Your Service.  So I did a search for a Toyota Corolla and how much a water pump replacement costs in my zip code.  I found out it varies from $285-$383.  I can also see shops available in my area with their full contact information, read about the repair, and see what they are recommending for prices for Labor and Parts.  It is very neat and this way, you know if the auto mechanic is at least in line with industry standards.  As long as they charge within the RepairPal estimate you know at least it is a common price, if it is way above then I would definitely recommend shopping around.

I use RepairPal every time I am told I need something done with my car and a few times I have been quoted a ridiculous amount, others it was on the lesser end of the quote.  I also like just searching around the RepairPal website to read what they have to say about my car.
