Summer Bridge Activities Workbooks Review (& Giveaway Ends 7/29)

ABOUT:

Carson-Dellosa Publishing LLC, has released Summer Bridge Activities 2010, the newly revised and redesigned edition of the best-selling workook series.

Summer Bridge Activities is the original summer workbook series designed to help parents support their children academically during the summer months. The Summer Bridge Activities workbook series was created by a mom, Michele Van Leeuwen, who saw her own first grade son forgetting basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills during his summer vacation. She decided to solve this problem by developing workbooks that would bridge the educational gap between spring and fall. The Summer Bridge Activities workbooks have been embraced by parents and educators alike and are continually updated to provide the best in supplemental education.

As part of its continuing effort to reach children and parents during the summer months, Carson-Dellosa is teaming up with MLS W.O.R.K.S, Major League Soccer’s community outreach initiative, on the Active Bodies Active Minds program for a third straight year. Now supporting First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! Campaign, this online summer reading and fitness program was created to motivate parents and provide them with the tools they need to take an active, leading role in summertime learning and fitness for their kids.

MY THOUGHTS:

So my son is only 3.5 years old, but before I know it he will be off in Kindergarten and next he’ll be graduating highschool!  Okay I know I need to slow down.  Anyways, when I was little I loved workbooks.  I remember begging my mom for workbook after workbook, because I loved playing school with them with my friends.  I probably didn’t use them like I should have and I don’t remember my mom working on them with me, but either way I loved them.

Well I got the chance to check out the Summer Bridges Activities book for K to 1st grade and it is awesome!  This book is jam packed with 20 Days of worksheet activities, a Bonus Section, and flash cards you can cut out.  The book recommends completing 2 activity pages a day to keep the bridge of their learning going.  The activities cover a wide range of subjects, including phonics, handwriting, addition and subtraction, time and money, shapes and colors.  The Bonus section includes activities that encourage outdoor learning, science experiments, and social studies exercises.  Then there are the flash cards that cover letters, time, money, shapes and more!  I have flipped through the book and I definitely see Aidan being able to start working on some of it now, but I can really see a 5 year old loving it.  I mean a book they can write and draw in, how cool is that!  (Just don’t tell them that they are actually learning too!)

I definitely see myself getting my son a workbook or two every summer just so he doesn’t completely forget what he learned or should know for the next school year.  I know how hard it is to remember things if you are not using them and it is so easy for kids to fall behind.  I think workbooks are a great easy and affordable way for parents to work with their kids at home together and then the parent can help if the child is struggling on something, without the pressure of it being a homework assignment or for an upcoming test.  Summertime is a time for fun and the Summer Bridges Activities books seem to do the best they can to ensure kids still have fun while learning a thing or two.  I recommend checking out the Summer Bridges Activities Books as they are really colorful, engaging, and full of so much valuable information!  The best part is that they go all the way up to 8th grade!

BUY IT: The workbooks have a suggested retail price of $14.95 and can be purchased at major book sellers, such as Barnes & Noble, Borders and Walden Books, teacher supply stores, as well as Carson-Dellosa’s online site at www.carsondellosa.com.
