Dot Girl First Period Kit Review (& Giveaway Ends 8/25)

ABOUT:

The average age a girl gets her period is 12.5 years as a girl’s first period is usually between the ages of 9 and 16.  Now there is a company that’s motto is “Informed girls.  Empowered women.”  Dot Girl products include Period Kits, Underwear, Books, Scensibles, and Skin Care products.

Dot Girl was started by two sisters in 2006.  They bring their experience as daughters and mothers to help girls get through the awkward experience of her first period.

The Dot Girl’s First Period Kit is a great gift to give a girl three to six months prior to her starting her first period so she has plenty of time to look through it, ask questions and gain the confidence to be ready in advance.

MY THOUGHTS:

Okay so I don’t remember my first period but I remember not really knowing much about it.  I don’t think my mom ever had “the discussion” with me as she assumed I knew it all from school and my friends.  I went with the flow and got through it but the Dot Girl’s First Period Kit definitely would have been nice to have and go through with my mom when I was ready.  It has everything you need (minus the Midol and extra underwear) for your first period and I think it definitely is a great resource and something to keep even in a girl’s locker at school as it doesn’t look embarrassing on the outside.

Luckily right now I have two boys so my husband will probably “have the talk
with them when they are in the puberty stage but I do have a 12 year old sister who has not yet received her gift from Mother Nature.  Since I figured she would be more comfortable talking to me about her period than my mom I showed her the Dot Girl case and when through each item inside with her and then sent her off to look at it alone.  I think it definitely will be helpful when she gets her period and I think Dot Girl will make a lot of mom-daughter discussions a little easier (still awkward probably) since all the tools and FAQ’s are in there to look over.
