ABOUT:
Moon Dough is an amazing molding compound that is geared towards ages 2-4 years old. It is soft and marshmallow-like, cleans up easily, and never dries out, so it can be used over and over again! It is also hypoallergenic and wheat-free.
There is a variety of out-of this-world Moon Dough play sets available including: Moon Dough Barnyard, Moon Dough Pizza Shop, Magic Molding Doghouse and Moon Dough Burger Shop. You can also purchase refill packs separately in eight fun colors!
MY THOUGHTS:
I have seen commercials before for Moon Dough, but I never really thought it was for younger kids. Well I got the chance to check out the Moon Dough Barnyard and it is adorable. The Moon Dough Barnyard comes with everything you need to start your own little farm – four animal moulds (cow, pig, sheep, and horse), three colors of Moon Dough, themed play mat, and Barnyard with fence and hay bale molds. All you do is open up a package of Moon Dough and smoosh it in the Barnyard top then crank back and forth (I made the mistake at first of going around and almost broke the handle off!) very easily and out comes an animal! To make the fence and hay bale there is a separate mold that you push the dough in and pop it out.
Now I think this set is great but I don’t know that it is the best for 2-3 years old. My 3 year old was not packing enough Moon Dough in and so when the animal would come out, he would crumble apart into pieces, but when I did it the animals were tightly packed and you could play with them. I do though love the concept that the Moon Dough will never dry out and the fun colors it comes it, but I think a 4-5 year old would have more fun and understand better how Moon Dough works. I will say though that it does pick up easily including from carpet, but it can also be messy when it crumbles. I decided to put a cookie sheet under the set so when my boys were down, I just emptied the Moon Dough into a container and closed it up. The Moon Dough reminds me of the way packing peanuts feel and crumbles like Feta cheese, if that makes any sense! Overall, I think the new sets of Moon Dough are adorable and I would recommend them, but definitely keep in mind that it can get a little messy but nothing that a vacuum can’t pick up!
