My Garage Sale

Okay so this weekend (yesterday and today) I had a garage sale over at my aunt’s house.  I just had to get rid of some big kids furniture items I had and make room in my storage area to walk!  I actually started by just cleaning out some kids items and then realized I had so much other items I should get clean out too!  So my hunt began, room-to-room I went and I didn’t leave until I filled at least one box.  Now I am not a packrat but I do hold on to items that I think I might find a use for later on or someone else in my family may need.  I am the oldest of six, so I am always thinking someone can reuse stuff I want to get rid of!

I ended up with two minivan loads of items, granted a few items were big like a new car seat, baby bouncer, kids wagon, and just a lot of boxes!  I probably could have filled a truck if I thought I was done having kids but I secretly (I guess it is not a secret anymore!) want more.  I love my boys but I do want to try for a girl, not that I wouldn’t love to have another boy (which I already have a name for!)

Anyways, so Thursday night I helped my aunt set up and Friday morning bright and early we opened up.  It was a beautiful day, which helped, and he really did have a lot so we got a lot of customers because of how many tables we had out!  I sold a lot of my big items and a few educational toys but really that was it.  I was surprised I didn’t sell much of my house wares or clothes, but I was happy to get rid of anything I could!  Today, though the weather was dreary and drizzled so we had a total of three customers.  Since everything was already on the tables, we left and kept the tables in the garage.  I am planning to have a half-off sale next Saturday and hoping to sell the rest of my junk, I mean wonderfully useful items!  I was happy though, I made just over $150, which I did do a lot of prep, set-up, and sitting outside for the sale but it was all extra money in the end!

  • Yeah usually I like to have them earlier, but my slacker family was taking forever to get their stuff together and my aunt lives directly across from an elementary school so I figured it would help! I am happy though to make any money I can!

  • Maybe you didn't sell as much as you wanted because people have already spent alot of money getting school supplies and clothes to get their kids back to school.
Garage Sales are rare in my local in September and later. They go big time in June, July and August though.

  • I should have a garage sale more often but I have a horrible location. (Long skinny driveway with no off street parking) so I have to rely on other people to have one. I had one this summer with some friends and I made $1,100. That was without any furniture and not a ton of a baby stuff since like you I have two boys and may want to try for one of my own. I hadn't had one though in over 5 years and just had a ton of stuff to get rid of! I got rid of a ton but I keep finding more!
