MY THOUGHTS:
I love the concept of the Sansa Fuze because it really is a simple device. I do have an iPod Touch but honestly I use it for the Internet, email, and Apps, never music. I love the idea that I could use the Sansa Fuze for music, videos, photos and radio – I have never owned an MP3 player that can play radio stations so that is pretty cool. I received the red Sansa Fuze which is absoultely perfect since I love red, it also makes it easy to find since it is not the traditional black.
Setting up the Sansa was pretty easy, just plug it into your computer via USB to charge it and to add content to it. I will say I have had a little difficultly since I have a Mac computer and not a PC, even though it says its compatible with a Mac it also says the software is for PC only. I was able to change a setting on the Sansa and then drag and drop music right from iTunes to the music folder on the Sansa. Videos I haven’t got working yet since I can’t use the included Sansa media converter software but I am sure with a few more google searches I will figure it out.
The Sansa Fuze is really lightweight but still more durable than you’d expect. It is not touch screen (which is hard to get used to after using an iPod) but it does use a touch pad which you just swipe your fingers across to change menus on the screen. The screen is very vibrant and crisp and I honestly feel it is a decent screen size for videos. I watched the two included videos on it and they are fine. I hope to get some videos on this for my sons to watch when we are out, it is also the perfect size for their little hands to hold!
Another feature that makes the Sansa stand out is the ability to add slotRadio cards. These cards are tiny cards that include 1,000 songs featuring artists from the Billboard charts. They are then handcrafted into playlists for you to enjoy. I received the VH1 Classic slotRadio card to enjoy and was pleased with the wide range of artists. Some of the artists are Blondie, Bon Jovi, No Doubt, Paula Abdul, The Who, The Police, The Rolling Stones, Elton John, Cheap Trick and Soundgarden. The slotRadio cards save you the time of downloading music song-by-song and the cost of paying for individual songs which is you figure most songs cost about $0.99 per song then the slotRadio cards are a steal at only $40, instead of $1000!
Overall, for the price of under $80 I do think the Sansa offers a lot. For someone who doesn’t have time to download songs, the slotRadio cards are awesome or if want to switch between MP3’s and radio that works too. The videos and photos are just a bonus I think. It is very easy to use and only a few buttons, so great even for those technologically-challenged! The sounds quality is great but you do need to hook it up to headphones, there is no speakers otherwise. I am thinking my tween sister would love this because she is so into music and really doesn’t care about games right now, it is also a lot cheaper than an iPod!
