X-Men: First Class is the thrilling, eye-opening chapter you’ve been waiting for…Witness the beginning of the X-Men Universe. Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their superhuman powers for the first time, working together in a desperate attempt to stop the Hellfire Club and a global nuclear war.

What’s so special about X-Men: First Class on Blu-ray? Here are a few pros to owning it on Blu-ray as opposed to the DVD:

  • Those who purchase the BD will have access to over two hours of special interactive features, plus ten Marvel “X-Men” Digital Comics including a never-before-seen “X-Men: First Class” backstory

  • Sharper picture, more eye-popping and vivid colors
  • Extra storage space means more room for additional content and features
  • The advanced technology will not only enhance the visuals of the film, but also the sound experience
  • Blu-rays are more durable than DVDs, and also have a higher quality error correction system which prevents scratches and imperfections on the disc
  • Backwards compatible discs

MY THOUGHTS:

I am a sci-fi geek at heart and X-Men is one movie series I love.   Normally I am not a big fan when they start making pre-quels to movie but “X-Men:  First Class” was pretty good.  It is a movie showing the main mutants from the beginning, starting with Charles Xavier (Professor X) and Erik Lehnsherr (Magneto).  I always knew they had a friendly relationship before they became enemies and this movie shows that, along with how some of the other popular mutants came to be.  You get to see Mystic, the Beast and a few others as teenagers just learning to control their mutant abilities.  You also get to learn how Professor X ended up in a wheelchair, and how each of Professor X and Magneto’s childhoods were.  It goes to show how one’s childhood can shape their adulthoods.

Overall, I really liked this movie.  It is actually probably my favorite X-Men thus far.  I wish we could have seen more mutants but who knows if they will make a sequel to this movie!  There is a lot that could have been added to the movie that wasn’t but I still feel like I learned a lot about the characters and it developed the series well.

  • Thank you for the review! I have been a Marvel fan since I was a kid. The X-men and Spiderman being my favorites. Unfortunatly, the movies for each have been dissopointing so far. The first 3 X-men movies were ok. The Spiderman movies were so bad, I don’t know if the new reboot can do any worse. When it comes to First Class, I learned my lesson. I will rent it before I buy it. I am apprehensive about the movie as it is. It seems like there are so many changes to the original group of students I don’t know if I can enjoy the movie. Angel having the wings of a dragonfly or fairy is a glaring mistake in my book. An angel without angel wings looks like a bug. Knowing that Angel eventually becomes Archangel with some big changes to look and abilities kind of kills the bug girl for me. Even with the changes I will have to give it a chance. I fell behind on my movie watching because it just costs too much to go to the theater. I was getting kind of bummed about all the movies I have been missing. That was until I signed up for the Blockbuster Movie Pass from my TV provider/employer DISH Network. For $10 per month I get all the streaming TV shows and movies I want and all the DVD/Blu-ray and video game rentals as I can cram in. The best part is if I don’t like a movie or game, I am not stuck with it.
