Disney Junior Arrives with New Shows!

This past Friday Disney launched Disney Junior, a 24-hour basic cable/satellite channel expressly for kids ages 2-7 years old.  The new channel features daily series such as “Jake and the Never Land Pirates” and “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse,” as well as some old favorites such as “Imagination Movers,” “Jo Jo’s Circus,” “Rolie Polie Olie” and “Higglytown Heroes.”

A new series also premiered with the new channel “Doc McStuffins,” an imaginative new animated series about a six-year-old girl Doc McStuffins who can talk to her stuffed animals and toys and runs a clinic for them out of her backyard playhouse.  I got the chance to check out this show and my boys love it!  The show is so cute and wholesome, plus it is unique with a child and playing doctor with their stuffed animals.  The show was created by a mom whose child spent a lot of time in the doctor’s office and thus the show reflects how a doctor’s visit can be less scary for kids.

In addition to “Doc McStuffins,” the 24-hour Disney Junior channel will feature new editions of the acclaimed short-form series “A Poem Is…” with celebrity narrators Laura Linney, Viola Davis, John Leguizamo, Jessica Alba, Own Wilson and Live Schreiber recieting poetry set to classic Disney animation, as well as the premiere of the new short-form series “Quiet Is…,” a tender animated series that delves into the idea of what “quiet is.”

Two new series will also be featured into the line-up – “Guess How Much I Love You” and “Gaspard and Lisa.”  Both are based on the storybooks and sure to be a hit!

Finally, the new channel will be home to “Magical World of Disney Junior,” a weekend movie block featuring telecasts of Disney movies including “Beauty and the Beast,” “Bambi,” “Monsters, Inc.” and more!
