Our Visit to Primrose School of Algonquin

Last weekend I had the chance to visit the Primrose School of Algonquin (they are a franchise but I visited the Algonquin location.) Now being new to schools since my boys are only 4 and 5, I didn’t really realize what was out there. Heck, I want to go to Primrose myself! Its funny because my neighbor sent her daughter off to a similar branded school and when she would tell me what they do, I didn’t really believe her. I mean for kids from 3 months to Kindergartens (in some locations) to have their own chefs, that is crazy! Yes Primrose School has their own chef and they actually eat a meal or snacks every two hours, nutritious meals at that.

So walking into Primrose School of Algonquin I didn’t really know what to expect but I was definitely blown away with everything. This particular location had individual classrooms that cater to only a certain amount of students and have ages. The school even had four playgrounds that two classes only at a time may share so its not overcrowded. The classrooms though were adorable! There was a nursery type room with cribs assigned to kids and then a playmat to crawl and lay on. Next there is a room for crawlers/early walkers that my 13 month old absolutely loved. One of the workers asked if she could take Olivia off to the room to play and Olivia hesitated (death grip on my arm) but she didn’t cry, she actually cried when I took her out of the room! She colored (okay she ate the crayons) and even did a little craft (not sure how much she actually helped on that one!)

The next rooms were for preschoolers and they had all sorts of toy/play areas set up to get kids to be creative and learning. They also had bathrooms in the room which was a plus. This particular location also had a Kindergarten room which was again adorable and appropriate. There was areas set up for different activities including computer stations.

Some aspects Primrose School focuses on:

  • Academics
  • Technology
  • Physical Development
  • Music and Art
  • Social-Emotional Development

It is suggested to tour the school at least one year in advance (or of course as soon as you can) so you have plenty of time to apply and enroll your child. There is of course limited availability because they don’t want overcrowding in the classrooms. I wish I could remember the numbers of kids in the classrooms as it was less than what some Kindergarten classrooms in my own school district have. I also asked about special needs, since both my boys receive those services and she said that some students actually have their therapists come to the school to work with them, and that they work better there than at home. I wish we lived closed because I would love to put Olivia in there. We met with the franchise owners and they are wonderful people who you can just tell care about the school and the children. I actually didn’t see anything I didn’t like or would change, everything just felt right there.
