A few weeks ago I announced that I was a Chicago Cutlery Ambassador and I have been fortunate to try out three of their knives. Now I will say I haven’t used them too much yet because I have been nervous on using “real” knives as I call them (our previous knives were dull and old.) I am definitely practicing though this week and after attending a media event at The Chopping Block here in Chicago with Chicago Cutlery (post to come) I have so much more confidence!
I will say I am loving them for cutting vegetables right now. It is amazing how easy and quickly I can cut up veggies with a real knife! I also want to add that my veggies have nice clean cuts now as opposed to jagged edges from my old dull knives. I think what is really the first step to using knives properly is to hold them the right way, which I learned I was not. Chicago Cutlery DesignPro knives make it so easy because they have an innovative grip that guides your hand for the best position to cut. The mistake I was making was putting my finger on the top of the knife, but actually you want them positioned on the sides for a good grip and control. I also learned the knives are made with “ultra sharp, Japanese blades” to improve the cutting expierence, and yes they are sharp! As far as weight goes they are a little heavier than what I’m used to, but they slice through my food so smoothly and without a lot of pressure. I am also getting used to rocking the knife back and forth to dice through my vegetables.
