Mario and Bowser Ice Race Building {Review}

K’NEX is a brand whose goal is to inspire creativity, build self-confidence and encourage interaction among children and parents. Their products include building sets including Tinkertoy, Lincoln Logs, Mario Kart Wii, Nascar, and Monster Jam!

Mario Kart is probably one of my boys favorite line of sets because it not only features building but also their new favorite characters – Mario and friends (and enemies.)

My kids recently discovered a love for Mario and it has been great having all these sets for them.  K’NEX has a huge line of the Mario Kart building sets and their newest Ice Race Building Set is definitely a great one to add to our collection.  The contains everything you need to build a whole race set for Mario and Bowser.

Lots of little pieces:

These are new to the K’NEX Mario Kart sets (or at least new to the K’NEX sets we own):

The little clips hold the track pieces together for extra durability, but I never had a problem before:

Pretty big set up, I’d say about 2.5 feet across:

Penguin catapult, this is a separate piece for extra fun:

He hangs there ready to attack and swings back and forth:

Bowser:

Battery goes underneath:

Mario:

You can see the size compared to my cell phone:

Track allows racers to jump:

Small figures:

Overall, this is a great set whether it be for a new collector or old.  You do not need other K’NEX sets to enjoy this one and actually we haven’t even combined all of our sets together yet.  And yes all the sets can be combined to build a bigger set but I think this set is big enough for two kids to play with.  I love the design and with the new little clips that hold the track together it creates a durable playset for kids (and adults.)  With the batteries in the cars, they also go pretty fast, like zooming-by fast.  My boys could sit there for hours and watch these two race around the track and if I let them they’d zoom them all around the house!  As far as building goes, the track is pretty easy to snap together, but the trap is a little challenging.  The directions are visual and easy to follow though and give kids something to work towards.  The penguin catapult gives a bonus for kids and can be used with or without the set.
