Book Review: “Tony Baloney School Rules” {Review} #TonyBaloney

Disclosure:  I received a book and compensation in exchange for sharing this information and my honest opinion.

Today I send my middle child to Kindergarten.  It is both exciting and sad for me, how can my Gavin be a Kindergartner already?  Now even though he has been to preschool and Kindergarten is actually the same time as his preschool was, its different and he knows it.  He knows its at the “big” school now he knows that there is not as much playtime as he’s used to.  I am trying too to make a big deal of how exciting it will be because he is my middle child and I know there are times he feels left behind.  He plays the role of little brother and big brother all day and I want his school expierence to be something that is just him.

Well Tony Baloney has us covered.  He is a new guy at school in a new book from Scholastic called “Tony Baloney School Rules.”

Tony Baloney is finally free from the tyranny of his many sisters only to face a new challenge–SCHOOL RULES! How will Tony ever follow them all? True to his resilient spirit, he discovers a first day of school filled with new friends, good fun, a few foibles, and some fantastic surprises!

Hilarious sibling dynamics make this book a hit with young readers who can relate to the “Bossy Big Sister Baloney,” “Mischievous Middle” Tony Baloney, or the “Bothersome Baby Baloneys.” Tony Baloney is poised to become a classic, character-driven series in the vein of Arthur, Fly Guy, and Frog and Toad.

From award-winning team Pam Muñoz Ryan, author of The Dreamers and Esperanza Rising, and Edwin Fotheringham, illustrator of What to Do About Alice?

Now what I love first off about this book is its a fun looking book meaning its colorful, hardcover (durable) and its about something my kids can relate to.  Second I love that the book is simple enough that kids can relate to it and follow along.  While the words are simple this is definitely a book a parent would need to read to a kindergartner, as there are a lot of words, but it is a great book for parents to read to kids.  My son laughs and laughs when we read this book and he hears about silly Tony Baloney.  Just hearing the word “Baloney” is silly!

The book is all about Tony Baloney going to kindergarten.  He is nervous but excited, maybe too excited!  He has some “hiccups” but makes it through the day.  The story is cute and funny.  Tony Baloney even has a little friend he talks to about his day.  It is a great book to get kids excited about school and excited to make new friends!  I am thinking of writing in the cover to remember his first day.
