I have two boys, ages 5 and 6, and honestly they have been dreading starting school this year. You see this year my 6 year old will go to school all-day for 1st grade and previously he was in half-day preschool and kindergarten. For my 5 year old he is going to school in the mornings instead of the afternoon, half-day still, and its at the “big” (elementary) school. So what’s a mom to do to get her kids excited for back to school? Go shopping of course! Originally I had planned to bring them with me so they could each pick out a few items but they weren’t feeling good so I figured I’d run out and surprise them with a few things.
I had heard good things of a new store called Gordmans that had opened and even though it was about 20 minutes away I headed there. All I can say is “Wow!” I really hope they build one closer to me because Gordmans is awesome and huge! Gordmans is a department store and specialty store all-in-one with savings up to 60% off the competitions ticketed prices every day. They seriously have everything – from clothes for the whole family to toys to housewares to shoes! I could have spent hours in the store and don’t think you won’t need a cart, otherwise you will be juggling your items like me throughout the store. I wish too I would have been able to bring my boys as they have a section called “Gordmans Giggles” which is a children’s theater with fun colorful seating and a large-screen tv with children’s shows on. (I wish I could have taken a picture but there were other kids sitting there and I didn’t think their parents would have appreciated me taking a picture with them in it.) Oh and if my husband came they even have “Gordmans Grandstand” in the men’s department with sports-oriented programming.
My boys do have all their school supplies already as well as backpacks and some clothes, but I do want to get them some more with them picking them out with me next time. I was able to find though a shirt for each of them, yes one is long sleeved but my youngest really likes long sleeve shirts like that and in Chicago here we have crazy weather anyways. Then I found a book for each kid, exactly what they wanted and on clearance! I think the jumbo coloring book I got for my daughter for $2.99 was the absolute best deal ever – she loves it and it will keep her a little busy while her brothers are away at school. She is not going to know what to do with herself without her brothers’ craziness. I also got them Kick Boards for a few more pool trips before school starts and I got myself Caramel syrup for my coffee in the morning! I spent only $40 and I got so much!
Gordmans also has a free loyalty program where you can earn points for every dollar spent, birthday discount and other special rewards. It’s free like I said so definitely take the 1 minute to sign up for gRewards!
