Disclosure: I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for CVS MinuteClinic. I received promotional items as a thank you for participating.
Last summer after a day of swimming on 4th of July weekend, my 5 year old started crying and holding his ear in pain. With it being a holiday weekend and us about an hour from home (and our primary doctor), I headed to the CVS MinuteClinic with my son. I had never been to a clinic like that before, and honestly I was impressed with the ease of the visit and outcome. Unfortunately my insurance was covered but for the price of getting my son taken care of and checked out, it was well worth the less than $100. My only other option at the time was going to the Emergency Room and that cost is ridiculous for us. I can’t remember the exact amount, but it was reasonable for us having to pay out of pocket.
The MinuteClinic is a walk-in clinic located in select CVS/pharmacy stores in 28 states and DC. They are open 7 days a week with evening hours and you don’t need an appointment, hence the name “MinuteClinic.” When your doctors office is closed or if you just want a quick visit (I know I am always waiting in my doctor’s office) the MinuteClinic is the perfect place to go. During the wintertime when everyone is getting sick with a cold or the flu, the MinuteClic is an affordable option, in place of your doctors office or an ER/Urgent Care Center. After you visit the MinuteClinic to vaccinate, diagnosis and treat, you can then pick up your prescription or cough-cold essentials at CVS. I am all about one-stop shopping, so why not add the MinuteClinic if you need a quick visit. Now obviously the MinuteClinic is not a full doctor substitute, but they can do basic things and diagnoses. My son ended up with an ear infection that was treated and I got the medicine right then and there.
So next time you or one of your family members has a cough or cold or other basic illness, consider the MinuteClinic for your one-stop diagnosis and treatment.
