Did you know this month is Children’s Dental Health Month? I had no idea, but I love that there is a whole dedicated to reminding families about children’s teeth! Did you also know that although cavities are nearly 100 percent preventable, more than one in four Illinois children had at least one cavity in the past year?
In an effort to teach cavity-fighting habits to pre-kindergarten through third grade students in Illinois, the Delta Dental of Illinois Foundation’s “Land of Smiles” program will visit over 130 schools in 2014. “Land of Smiles” is a highly entertaining and educational program where two costumed characters, Tooth Wizard and PlaqueMan, teach the value and practice of brushing, flossing and rinsing with mouthwash. They also discuss how sealants work, good and bad foods for teeth and remind kids why it is important to visit the dentist at least twice a year.
