Cleaning Carpets with Baking soda and Uses for Baking Soda

Baking Soda: A Cheap and Charming Carpet Cleaner

There are so many uses for baking soda. If you didn’t know already, you can use baking soda for things such as whitening your teeth, removing stains from a variety of surfaces, and extinguishing dangerous grease fires in the kitchen. Baking soda is a non-toxic power product and (arguably) a necessity for the home.

Baking soda, or bicarbonate of soda, is a naturally occurring substance created from sodium carbonate, or soda ash. When soda ash is dissolved in a solution rich in carbon dioxide, baking soda is the result. Most often, this powdery material is used for cooking, but it can also be used for a variety of cleaning tasks.

Baking soda is so desirable as a cleaner because it’s:

  • Inexpensive,
  • Non-toxic,
  • Multi-purpose,
  • And easy to find.

Uses For Baking Soda

Aside from its known purposes (and there are many you likely don’t know), baking soda can be used for countless other things. Some of its uses include acting:

  • As a antacid,
  • As deodorant,
  • As a pain and burn sensation relief for bee stings, windburns, and jellyfish stings,
  • As a rain repellant on your windshield,
  • As a cockroach repellant in your home,
  • As a laundry detergent’s booster to enhance its cleaning power,
  • And to unclog drains and gas stoves.

How To Clean With Baking Soda

The most fascinating of all its uses, we believe, is its incredible ability to clean and freshen your carpets. With a touch of this magical powder, your home and carpets will be revived and renewed. The next time you need to freshen up your home, use these tips on how to clean with baking soda:

  • Suck baking soda into your vacuum or carpet cleaning machine to remove strange odors.
  • Add a cup of baking soda to the toilet and let sit an hour. After, flush and your toilet will be and smell clean.
  • Apply the material to a sponge to clean garbage cans, the refrigerator, and appliances.
  • Mix 4 tablespoons with warm water to clean the inside of an oven.

When cleaning carpets with baking soda, follow these steps:

  1. Run the vacuum over your carpet to remove any large particles, oils, and dirt.
  2. Lightly dust your carpets with baking soda. Allow the powder to sit for a few hours or overnight. The longer it sits, the better! Baking soda will naturally neutralize the odors rather than covering them up like many air fresheners do.
  3. Vacuum the baking soda out of the carpet.
  4. Enjoy your clean, spot-free, chemical- and odor-free home!

Re-create Your Carpets With Baking Soda

If you have stains on your carpet, baking soda is a must-buy. Cleaning your carpets with baking soda will tackle any ground-in stains and keep your carpets looking and smelling lush. Baking soda has the compelling ability to lift carpet stains such as:

  • Alcohol
  • Food,
  • Vomit,
  • Pet urine,
  • Blood,
  • And more!

When you combine baking soda with other ingredients, carpet cleaning reaches a whole new level. Aside from blood (which can be removed when dampened and rubbed with baking soda alone), the other stains need a chemical reaction. For instance for pet urine stains, soak any visible carpet stains in vinegar, then sprinkle baking soda over the spot. When you do it in this order, the carbon dioxide interacts with the acidic liquid and bubbles will form. After a while, vacuum over the spot and the stain should be gone!

If you’re without vinegar in the cupboard, other baking soda combinations that will tackle tough stains include:

  • 10-20 drops of your favorite essential oil to every 1 cup baking soda,
  • Or a spray bottle of hydrogen peroxide to every ½ handful of baking soda.

  • Absolutely! Many households believe in the common misconception that vacuuming is all it takes to remove dirt and debris from their carpet, but unfortunately, that is not always so. Many problem areas do not get the care and attention they need, leading to an accumulation of dust and pollutants that can trigger allergies and asthma. This is why doing a deep carpet cleaning is very essential.
