Oh Don’t Mind Me, Just Chatting Online With a Doctor…

Disclosure:  This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of American Well.

Do you ever feel like you have a quick question for a doctor but don’t want to waste the time at the doctor’s office or maybe you don’t have insurance?  Maybe you are embarrassed to ask your own primary doctor this or want a second opinion?  For me I have tons of times when my kids do something like cough or wheeze and I’d love to get a second opinion from a doctor before heading off to the ER.  Well recently I got the chance to check out American Well which is an online service where you web chat with actual doctors!  You get to read about them and their specialties and then book a time with them immediately if they are connected or pick someone else for an urgent question.  The prices are super reasonable as well with a doctor chat costing $49 and a nutritionist costing $25.  Its not that much more than what I pay for a co-pay for my own doctor!

So I got to check this out and of course I was drawing a blank on what to ask!  Other times I have a million questions, especially since we only see our doctors once a year now.  So to check out the service I decided to have a chat with a nutritionist.  With us leaving on a cruise soon I wanted to ask about ways to stay on track with my kids especially.  She made a few good points:

  • Its only a week so its okay to indulge
  • Watch the sugar kids eat
  • Eat lots of proteins (fish, chicken, eggs…)
  • Grab snacks from the buffet like fruits if you can to take with for later or for excursions

Honestly I love the concept of this service and I will definitely be using it in the future and recommending it.  There are just so many times it is a pain or not possible to visit a doctor and this way you get the second opinion and assurance.  There are doctors available 24/7, 365 days a year and you can connect with a face which is sometimes more comforting.  They are HIPAA-compliant as well.  Now obviously they can’t diagnose everything, but there are many things they can.  Some can even write prescriptions.  I am thinking this would be awesome too for those people that don’t (or can’t) go see a doctor but have a question for someone other than Dr. Google.  I had never heard of anything like this before, but it really is great idea.

Oh and yes there is an App for it as well:
