How to Help the Child Hunger Ends Here Campaign #ChildHunger

Did you know that one in five children, including more than one in four Latino children, in the U.S. may not know where their next meal is coming from? That comes out to be nearly 16 million children, a number that could fill 8,000 playgrounds.

I cannot even imagine what it is like to go hungry or worry about food and I wish so many didn’t have to. Kids shouldn’t have to worry about food especially, they should be able to be kids that grow and have fun. Kids that have to worry about food miss out on being a kid and may even expierence serious, long-term health issues. I recently read a Facebook post from a friend who said she went hungry often as a child. She said how her mom used to get creative at the end of the month with meals and how she looked forward to school the next day because she knew she’d get a hot meal at school. Food is defintiely something so many (including myself) take for granted, but I am trying to change that to be a better role model for my kids. I want them to want to help others and know that they are lucky that there is food in our kitchen for them whenever they want it.

ConAgra Foods finds it unacceptable that so many kids are going without meals and has partnered with P& G to build a community of people to help make a difference. They hope to donate up to 7 million meals through the Child Hunger Ends Here campaign.

How the campaign works:

Enter codes to trigger donations. On specially marked ConAgra Foods and P&G products, there is a red pushpin image indicating a code. For each 8-digit code entered at www.ChildHungerEndsHere throught August 2014, ConAgra Foods or P&G, respectively, will donate the monetary equivelant of one meal to Feeding America. Community Food Donations From Meijer. ConAgra Foods is donating more than 50,000 meals to community food banks on behalf of Miejer in appreciation for their partnership to end child hunger.

There are so many easy ways to help the Child Hunger Ends Here campaign and I love that I can help others while shopping for my own family. I am actually using the participating products with the code as a teaching tool for my kids showing them how buying that for them can feed another child. They immediately searched the aisles of the store for other products that had the red pushpin on it and are constantly asking at home if we can donate this or that food item (yes it may not be one they want to eat but at least they are getting the concept of it.) This is one of those campaigns where every little bit helps and can make a difference.
