Who Says My BFF Can’t Be a Tablet? {Samsung Note 10.1 2014 Review}

Disclosure:  I received the product below to review in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.

So honestly I am a laptop kinda girl.  I carry my laptop pretty much everywhere but I just never felt comfortable without it.  Well the Samsung Note 10.1 2014 edition has become not only my new go to product but its my new BFF.  When we went our our cruise last month it was the true test as I needed something that I could not only work on but it could entertain my family.  It seriously did all that and blew us away.  I carry this baby around me everywhere and it really can do so much.

So what do I use my Samsung Galaxy Note tablet for:

  • Reading books via the Kindle and Nook apps
  • Games for my kids
  • Reading and replying to emails – I hate replying via my phone because I like more room and a bigger keyboard, I usually wait until I am on my laptop but if I have my tablet with me I will use that!
  • Movies for kids from apps/YouTube
  • Universal remote and TV guide via the WatchON app
  • Multi Window – yes you can have two windows open at once which honestly I do all the time when I want to read from one screen to another for references
  • Samsung Galaxy Perks – receive $25 in Google Play credit, 50 GB of Dropbox space for two years, 3 months of SiriusXM Radio for new users and more!
  • Polaris Office – I can edit Word docs, Powerpoint presentations and Excel spreadsheets right from my tablet!  Then if I know someone else with a Samsung product I can use Group Play to share the presentation or photos in real time over a Wi-Fi network.

Here are some of my screenshots from my tablet:

This is what I see when I first turn on my tablet after its been sleeping, I can easily jot down notes or check the calendar.  This is of course customizable but I love the convenience of it.

This is a list of Settings you can quickly access by tapping the button at the top.  I love that I can easily turn settings on and off with a tap of a button.

Here is a page I made with my “Entertainment” apps so far:

Here is a page I made for my kids with their games, I love that they are all organized and on one screen:

Creating Check Lists!  I have been doing tons of these lately:  What to pack for vacation, Reviews to do, Appointments I need to schedule and so forth!  I love that I can doodle with my finger or the stylus in just a few quick taps.

What about the tech specs?

  • More than four million pixels (that’s 2 million more than HDTV)
  • Virtual Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound
  • Intuitive S Pen – it’s an enhanced S Pen that when you pull it out it gives you more functions to jot down messages, draw, save to screen and more
  • Android 4.3, Jelly Bean OS
  • Built-In WiFi
  • 10.1 inch screen size
  • 16 GB internal memory (expandable up to 64 GB via a MicroSD)
  • 8 MP camera resolution on rear camera (2 MP on front camera)
  • Weighs 19.05 ounces
  • Battery life:  Standby (up to 2537 hours) and Video Play Time (up to 10 hours) as examples
  • Bluetooth built-in

Here are some of my pics of how the tablet looks:

When I first turn my tablet on, you can customize this. I like that I can easily jot notes or reminders with my finger!

So thin!

The back.  It’s not plastic feeling either, its like a nice smooth suede-like material!

Stylus included:

Expand with MicroSD, so far I haven’t run out of room but I am glad to have this option!

How you charge it:

Good size, almost a sheet of paper:

Overall, I love our Samsung Galaxy Note tablet more than our others.  Yes its the newest one we have but it really is amazing with its possibilities.  I’ve only owned it about 6 weeks so far and I feel like I have barely scratched the surface for what it can do. Every time I pick it up I feel like I learn something new or find something that I can do more efficiently on it.  People are surprised as well when I show them it as I don’t feel like many people understand Android yet but its getting there.  I honestly prefer the Google Play store on Android rather than the Windows store or iTunes.  For the price of less than $500 you really can’t go wrong with this tablet and it is one that has tons of room for both apps for parents as well as kids, 16 GB really is a lot (plus its expandable.)

BUY IT:  Check out the Samsung Galaxy Note® 10.1 2014 Edition (Wi-Fi), White 16GB for $499.99 currently on the Samsung website or at a nearby electronics store.
