This month its National Preparedness Month and what better time to start preparing your home, workplace and car to prepare for a disaster or emergency situation. I know for my family we are not prepared for emergencies, which I recently discovered when the power went out and I couldn’t even find a working flashlight. In addition to batteries though its important to stock up on food and water as well as create a family emergency plan.
Here are some Energizer Preparedness Month Tips:
- Create a plan. Talk to your family about what would happen in an emergency.
- Keep a portable light in every room. When the power goes out, you don’t want to have to search the drawers for flashlights. In my house we have them all in a basket in our laundry room, but I guess that doesn’t help if the power goes out and we are all the way across the house or in the basement. We have enough to scatter them throughout our house, which is actually a great idea to be prepared.
- Energizer has a few portable lights great to have on hand:
- Weatheready®– Long lasting, practical solutions designed to keep you and your family safe during a weather emergency
- Fusion Flashlights and Lanterns – Compact and versatile, Energizer® Light Fusion Technology products are compact, water resistant and provide impressively bright long lasting light
- Headlights – Energizer’s powerful LED headlights are lightweight and versatile – perfect for keeping your hands free during an emergency situation
- Designate a place to seek shelter. Plan where you will meet and what you’ll need to have ready. A basement or the smallest, most-interior room on the lowest floor is the safest for severe weather and tornados.
- Make an emergency kit. Keep an emergency kit stocked with bottled water, canned foods, copies of vital information, a first aid kit with prescriptions and an Energizer Emergency Weather Station if possible which acts as a light, radio and charging station.
- Check social media for updates. The news stations may be limited during severe weather but social media is always up-to-date and a great place to pop over to check for emergency situations.
- Charge your devices. Make sure to charge your cell phone and that you have fresh batteries on hand.
- Stock your vehicle. Keep an emergency kit in your car with first aid essentials, batteries, maps and whatever else you think you’ll need.

Thanks for this article. These are things that we all know we should do but never get around to it. I'm going to make an emergency kit and be ready in case of a disaster.
Great tips! We do have an emergency kit, however, we need to get a couple more portable lights.
These are all very great tips. I really can't think of any to share. You have covered everything I can think of :) Thank you!
I have portable lights just in case. After Sandy hit the Tri State area we are more prepared.
Good reminder! I keep an emergency kit but need to update it to see if the batteries have expired or the bulbs on my flashlights are dead.
