Disney: Story Central @Disney #DisneyStoryCentral #CleverGirls

My 3 year old has turned into quite the little reader, well she tries at least. She loves books and browsing each page but as a mom of three I don’t have the time always to sit down with her and help her. So yes I turn to apps to help her when I can’t. As a mom though it can be very overwhelming to find apps that can not only teach my kids something but also are ones they will want to sit down and play.

Well Disney Story Central is an app that is the largest collection of Disney digital stories, with all the stories starring various Disney characters. It is designed to encourage kids to read by featuring the characters they love in a variety of stories. Parents can choose either an annual subscription of $7.99 a month or a-la-carte option, using Disney Book Tokens.

Features:

  • Customizable bookshelves for each family member. Kids can select their name and it shows book recommendations and their bookshelf.
  • A “Browse By Character” section where the user can view all the books by certain characters.
  • Personalized book recommendations
  • Stars, ranks and trophies reward kids for reading and encourage them to keep going.
  • The books range from pre-readers to speed readers and everyone in-between.
  • Once you download the books to your shelf they can be used on the go as well.
  • The subscription service offers unlimited books for the $7.99 a month.
  • The Disney Book Token system can be used to reward kids by giving the parent the option to send tokens to their children so they can purchase the books they want themselves.

My daughter has played with this app for the past few days and she enjoys it. She loves the variety of books available to her and I love that it can Auto-Play to her when I can’t sit down and read with her. It guides her along the words and there are pictures on every page. The quality of the pictures are amazing and exactly what I expect from Disney. The only thing I don’t like from the app is on the main screen it shows all the books available which of course kids will want them all. My daughter gets upset when she clicks on a book and it costs 1 token to unlock. I try to keep her on the My Books page but when she clicks on the Home button it takes her to the Main page with all the books available. She is too young to really earn the tokens from me yet or understand how to earn them so unless you pay for the unlimited subscription it can be a little frustrating with younger kids.

Here are some screenshots of the app I took:
