Tips for Vacationing on a Budget #VRMonth @Wyndham_Rentals

To me, vacations are important to do as a family. My parents took us on tons of vacations as I was growing up ranging from weekend trips to a nearby campground to Disney World and as a parent now I want to do the same for my own family. My husband and I took vacations when we were dating and every year since we have done at least one vacation. Now I know vacations can be expensive, but they can be budgeted for and there are tons of ways to save while vacationing. You don’t need a huge glamorous vacation to call it a vacation.

Here are some of my tips to vacation on a budget:

  • Stay local or “staycation” if you can’t afford to go somewhere. Local hotels sometimes offer cheaper weeknights and many have a pool which is great especially in the wintertime. For a staycation you could decorate your house for a theme like a beach, camp in the backyard or even sleep in the basement if you have a finished basement. My kids think it is such a treat when we sleep in the basement rather than their bedrooms.

  • Request a coupon book from the tourism bureau of the state you are visiting. I usually Google the city/state and coupon book (ex. Wisconsin Dells coupon book) and there is usually something I can request for free.
  • Bring your own snacks and meals if possible. Since we usually eat out at least two meals a day while on vacation I try not to add snack purchases into our costs. I packed half a suitcase of snacks and breakfast goods for our trip last year to Disney World. We saved a lot by eating breakfast in the room and bringing our own snacks each day to the parks.
  • Bring your own water flavoring and water bottles. Water can usually be requested for free or filled up somewhere so to add some flavoring we bring those little water flavor enhancers (like Mio) everywhere and squirt in our own flavors. This makes it seem like you are drinking juice rather than plain water, great especially for kids who are not big water fans.

  • Bring your own souvenirs. If you are going somewhere like Disney World then stock up on Disney goodies to surprise your kids when your there rather than paying the expensive prices at the stores there. Even if you are not going somewhere souvenir-heavy, you could always stock up on glow sticks or just little trinkets to surprise your kid. I love Dollar Tree and 5 Below for goodies.
  • Stay at a vacation rental rather than a hotel.  A vacation rental can offer amenities that typical hotels may offer plus the added bonus of more room and a kitchen.

Speaking of a vacation rental, did you know July is National Vacation Rental Month? July is the month when the greatest number of travelers take vacations, which means lots of money is being spent and budgeted for.

Wyndham Vacation Rentals‘ properties offers amazing amenities and you can book knowing your vacation is backed by the Vacation Rental Bill of Rights, an industry-first service pledge that lets you know they are there for you before, during and after your stay.

Some of the amenities include (varies at locations):

  • Shuttle service
  • Concierge desk
  • Housekeeping
  • Extra space to spread out including multiple bedrooms and a living room
  • Privacy of not having a neighbor in the room next door
  • Fully-equipped kitchen

  • That place looks like so much fun! I have such a tight budget that I don't go on vacations at all. Due to mobility issues I don't mind to much. Its fun to see other peoples fun pictures though. I'm having problems with your giveaways. I entered a couple then I shared one on FB, then I came back and couldn't get back to it. I keep clicking on it and it's not working. It's so good to be back. I wasnt on for awhile since my computer got messed up. I'm looking forward to entering your giveaways again :)
