This past week my Facebook feed has been blowing up with pictures of the first day of school. Some of the kids are just starting preschool like my daughter and others are starting college. I am once again grateful Facebook was not around when I was in school! It feels like yesterday that I was moving into my college dorm, I was only 17 years old at the time but I of course was ready to conquer the world. It was the first time I would live away from my parents and I remember being equally scared and excited. I don’t remember who watched my younger siblings that day but that morning my mom and dad drove me up to school with a van full of my most important possessions. I had all my cool clothes, a television, video games, beauty products and an old computer. I was so excited to rip open all the new stuff I got to make my dorm room more me, mainly new sheets and fun wall decorations.
Here is a picture of my college dorm, yep I was a dork:
I remember being overwhelmed when my parents actually did leave, thinking what was I supposed to do. I had to be in charge of making sure I went down for dinner or I didn’t eat. I had to make sure I got up in time for school or I’d fail my classes. And I had to buy my own health and beauty products as I didn’t live at home anymore. If I ran out of moisturizer or shampoo, I had to head to the local Walmart to pick it up. Now as pitiful as it sounds, Walmart was the place to go when I was in college. Where I went to school there was just a few stores but Walmart had everything and with time to kill I would roam that store for hours! It was funny how when I said “Anyone need anything from Walmart?” to my friends, they all asked to come with!
Well come October, my mom sent me a care package. It was the only care package she had ever sent me but it was still so exciting to get. I remember seeing the slip in my mailbox that I had a package at the front desk and then running up to my dorm room to open it. She had packed it mainly with candy but there was also some items in there like toothpaste, shampoo and body wash. The one thing she hadn’t thought of though was disposable razors.
Let me say disposable razors are a must have in college. Why? They are something you don’t think about buying when your young but when you are out of them, you realize how valuable they are. I mean who wants to look like a wildebeest? For me, I have dark brown hair which means you see my leg hair and armpit hair – gross! Shaving also mad me feel better about myself on the outside and therefore I felt more confident and ready for anything. When I didn’t shave, I felt blah and pretty much would stay in my room – I must not have shaved the day the picture of me above was taken!
So for me when I pack a care package for my own kids, which I will definitely be the cool mom that does that, I will be packing some Schick® Disposable Razors. Luckily Schick® Disposable Razors comes in both boy and girl varieties so I am covered with all three of my kids.
I cannot believe that my oldest could start college in just 10 years. 10 years seems way to close for him to be moving away!
Pick up Schick® disposable razors at your local Walmart or Walmart.com and send a care package today or just stock up for yourself. You can also check out the fun #SchickSelfieSweeps for a chance to win some great prizes or share it with a college kid you know!
