Tips on How I Save Money With Our Party of 5

Saving money is something I’m sure everyone thinks about. As a family of five I try to do the best I can with the money we make. As a stay at home mom I am fortunate that I am able to contribute to our income but I consider that our extra spending money. My income is not steady income like my husband’s so I try not to rely on it.

Here are some tips I have for how we save money:

• If we do go out to eat, we do it on a Kids Eat Free Night or where we have a coupon.

• I re-use whatever I can and I buy used goods when I can. I donate a lot and I buy a lot for our house from thrift stores. There are some items I want new but used is just as good.

• I am starting to plan meals a little based on what is on sale. I may not cook it that week but I have been buying meat and freezing it properly to have on hand.

• I don’t drive if I don’t need to and when I do I try to drive efficiently. If I have errands to run I try to do them only when I am out that way. Being near Chicago, we have the highest gas across the country (I’ve been told) and it adds up to have to keep filling up my tank.

• I run my dishwasher and washing machine at night when electricity is cheaper. I try to throw a load in every night and then in the morning I dry it so I can put it away right away.
