Fun Bedtime Stories: Best Children’s Books for 2015

Looking for a list of children’s books to load your Galaxy Tab for the holidays? Looking forward to holiday story reading session with your kids or cute nieces and nephews?

Here’s a list of the best children’s eBooks from the Independent to look out for this year:

  • 15 Things Not to Do with a Baby by Margaret McAllister and Holly Sterling. A tale about younger siblings that your older kids will appreciate. The illustrations offer amusing examples of what not to do with babies: for one, don’t let it play with an elephant or don’t put it in a brown paper bag. You and your kids will surely laugh aloud at the full-colored drawings that accompany the text.
  • A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to School by Davide Cali. What do you say when you’re late for school? If you’re the hero of this story, you’ll end up telling tales about alien ants and giant apes along with evil ninjas. Tall-tales indeed but Banjamin Chaud’s illustrations border on the surreal and make for the perfect backdrop to the story.
  • The Queen’s Orangutan by David Walliams. What happens when a Queen tires of her diamond-encrusted star lifts? She asks for a pet orangutan instead. Laughter, chaos, and fun ensue. We come along for the ride as the orangutan is even promoted to Butler and ultimately, to King.
  • My Headteacher is a Vampire Rat by Pamela Butchart. Great for your seven to 10 year olds, this is a book about Izzy who, along with friends, believes that their new headmaster is a vampire. They’d do anything to put a stop to his evil plans, even if that meets they’d have to eat garlic too.
  • The Astounding Broccoli Boy by Frank Cottrell Boyce. Meet 11 year old Rory Rooney who finds an unlikely friend and ally in his long-time school rival when they’re both sent to the quarantine unit. The boys soon escape and are off to a series of madcap adventures, each one more funny than the last. This is a great book to read with your 12 year olds.
  • The Deadly 7 by Garth Jennings. It’s about a boy who accidentally takes out the seven deadly sins right from his own soul. They’re rendered as little surly monsters in the book. A little dark, the book doesn’t step over the line though and blends humor and wit in a winning combination.

Want another round of recommendations to load up on your Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 while you and the kids while away some of the upcoming holidays shopping for your Nook books and reading through your loot? Then take a look at this list from Buzzfeed and the New York Times to see which ones will hit the spot:

  • Goodnight Already by Jory John and Benji Davies. It’s about a bear who dreams about sinking into a long, uninterrupted sleep. But how could he when Duck keeps finding ways to wake him up? Perfect for older kids who have younger brothers and sisters who constantly pester them for attention even when it’s time for bed.
  • Please, Mr. Panda by Steve Anthony. Want to teach your kids a lesson on politeness? If your tiny tots keep forgetting how to say thank you and please, this book is the perfect way to remind them of their manners in a fun, non-serious, kiddie-approved fashion.
  • The Day the Crayons Came Home by Drew Daywalt. Sequel to the much celebrated The Day the Crayons Quit, the author continues the tale in his goofy and engaging story. After Duncan’s colors come home, there are a bunch of other lost colors who want to find their way back home to and look to Duncan for help and rescue.
  • The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt. What happens when Duncan discovers that all his colors have run away? Fun and chaos. Laugh as each color comes up with unique and amusing issues to solve. Blue doesn’t want to color bodies of water anymore and black wants to be more than a handy way to outline figures.
  • Dragons Love Tacos by Adam Rubin. This delicious tale tells the story of how much dragons love tacos. However, there’s just one thing that should never, never happen: putting dragon and spicy salsa together.
  • Zombie in Love 2 + 1 by Kelly DiPucchio. A sequel to the much beloved Zombies in Love, now the two main characters have become parents to (gasp) a non-zombie baby boy. When his teeth or hair starts to grow instead of falling out, they don’t have a clue what to do. Will their family survive this misfortune? This book is ideal for those who love zombies and heartwarming stories.
