Making Money Blogging

I partnered with Socialix in exchange for sharing this post.

Seven years ago I started my blog and honestly I had no idea what I was doing. I always liked to play around on computers and I was a fast learner so I went to a book store and bought a book on creating a website! I initially started my blog to share some money saving tips with my family. I had no idea the outreach I could have with readers and followers, nor did I think I would ever achieve any readers outside of my family.

I will say blogging for money is not easy. I didn’t start my blog to make money but now that I am I need to keep at it to make it work. Blogging is the one job I love most out of all the jobs I’ve had. I worked hard for years making a little bit here and there but not until a few years ago did I start to make serious money. By serious money I mean more money than I actually made when I was first out of college. It takes a lot of work though but the money can be made.

What is the one main way I make money blogging?

Writing articles and sharing brands messages via social media. There are lots of companies out there that act as a third party where they give you the topic and you write and there are companies who reach out to you individually. Companies like Socialix make it easy for a blogger to find what to write and get paid for it. They act as a middle man for the brands and feature a dashboard of campaigns that can be signed up for. I like working for companies like that because expectations are clear and I don’t have to chase after payments.

In an article in PR Week Sabrina Lynch of Zeno Group wrote “Last year, traditional advertising took a back seat to real-time conversations taking place in the digital universe among ‘ordinary’ members of the public.” Basically she means while traditional advertising is still around, digital advertising is taking over.

Influencer Marketing really is the next big thing. Back in 2014 in Forbes an article entitled ‘The Explosive Growth of Influencer Marketing and What It Means For You‘ shows how while brands used to focus on popular bloggers and celebrities, now there is a new wave of “everyday” consumers that have just as large an impact.

If you are a new blogger or looking to get started, just keep in mind that it takes awhile to build up your blog and followers. If your an experienced blogger than cross your fingers we all have a good year!
