I received a complimentary stay in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.
A few weeks ago my family and I drove about three hours to Wisconsin Dells. I have been going to the Dells since I was a kid and a few years ago my family and I started our own tradition of spending a weekend in the Dells in the summer. You could definitely spend a few weeks at the Dells and not do everything there is to offer but since we usually only have a few days we try to make the most of it.
This year we stayed at the Wilderness Hotel & Golf Resort which I had heard so much about. My neighbor stays there every year and she always says they pretty much just stay at the resort the whole time. I couldn’t believe there was enough to keep her family busy right there on the premises but boy was I wrong!
The Wilderness Hotel & Golf Resort is America’s largest waterpark resort and was actually named one of the Top 10 Water Parks of 2016 by Parents Magazine. There is a total of six waterparks (three indoor and three outdoor) and each waterpark is different. We made it our mission to swim in each one and I think we were able to. A great feature too is you can rent a locker for as low as $6 for valuables (since you don’t want to keep going back and forth to your room) and the locker can be transferred for free for the entire day to any of the other waterparks there. Oh and the waterparks are exclusive for guests which means you have to be a resort guest in order to enjoy the waterparks.
This is one of the newest slides, it features the Midwest’s first state-of-the-art, interactive Slideboarding systems. By riding a surfboard-type board, riders experience real life gaming while on a waterslide! Riders push colored buttons that match flashing lights they are passing under and receive points! There are different levels and you can get ranked against other riders. If it wasn’t for how heavy the boards are, I think my boys would have rode this slide a million times!
This is a view from our hotel balcony and yes I did lounge for a bit with our daughter while my husband and boys swam down below!
When we would want to take a break from the water, we took advantage of the Extreme Fun Pass we got. The Wilderness offers two fun passes for patrons that can be purchased which basically save them money on all the rides and other activities available. Yes other than six waterparks, there is even more to do!
Wild Fun Pass ($24.95 + tax) Includes:
Extreme Fun Pass ($29.95 + tax) Includes:
I bought the $3 lanyard to hold all five of ours and they just get marked off as you use them. I recommend the Extreme Fun Pass even if you are not planning on zip lining (which by the way is pretty cheap to do) as you get more go-karts and mini golf and its just $5 more a person. The Fun Passes are interchangeable too for your family; for example, if you get one for each member but lets say mom doesn’t want to the go-karts, well one of the kids go use her ride to go again.
Here are some pics of what we did using our fun pass:
We didn’t get the chance to do zip lining but here is one of the towers you zip to:
If you don’t want to shell out the money for the Fun Pass, there is a HUGE play area that is free! Kids just need to wear socks. My kids spent hours in this thing during our stay and loved it.
To keep everything straight there is a guide with lots of information about the resort, daily activities and hours of everything. This and a map came in super handy during our stay:
So if you think six waterparks and tons of other attractions are not enough, through Labor Day all guests get free admission to see the Tommy Bartlett Ski Sky Stage Show! This is an amazing deal since the tickets are usually around $20 a person! We did end up paying $3 a person to upgrade our tickets but for all of us it was just $12 total! Once we checked into the Wilderness, we only let once and that was to see the Tommy Bartlett show! We were so busy at the resort that my kids didn’t want to go anywhere else.
We stayed a Sunday thru Tuesday in the hotel (there are also cabins, condos and villas) and honestly I could have stayed longer and just did the resort. It is amazing how much is included with the reasonable resort cost. The convenience of not having to pay to go to other waterparks or attractions is priceless in itself. My husband couldn’t believe how much there was to do and how big the resort was! Oh and while it is super easy to walk all around via walkways there is even a free shuttle that drives around the resort.
So next time you are looking for a vacation, even if it is just to get away for a few days, I highly recommend the Wilderness Hotel & Golf Resort in Wisconsin Dells. My family of five had a blast and my kids have already asked when are we going back!
