Cruising Around With Disney Mickey Mouse Express Ready-to-Play Set

When my boys were younger we got a train set for under our Christmas tree but it wasn’t as magical as I had hoped. To me a train set for kids especially should be able to be played with! The train should be easy for kids to build as well.

Well the Disney Mickey Mouse Express Ready-to-Play Set by Lionel is a pretty awesome train set. It features Mickey, Minnie, Donald Duck, and Goofy on four train cars.

The ready-to-play train set comes with 24 pieces of curved and 8 straight plastic track pieces that can easily be connected together by kids – this is a must for us. We have had track pieces in the past that were a pain to snap together or were just flimsy. These pieces are sturdy and I like that you get a lot of them.

What makes this set really cool to me is that you get a nice remote with it. Rather than just pushing a button on the train itself, you get a remote that works nicely to go forward, reverse and even make sounds. The sounds include a whistle, bell and some Disney announcements. When you are not driving the train it makes a shutting down sound too like it is coming to a stop. Oh and the headlight on the train even works!

Now the flaw I have found with this set is it takes a whole lot of batteries. You need three AAA batteries for the controller and six C batteries for the train – I still can’t believe I had enough C batteries on hand.

As far as playing goes, once we figured out that the train can go slow or fast, we had fun. It was so neat seeing the train go around our tree and my kids had a blast seeing their Disney friends zoom around. The train is super easy to connect together and set on track – again a must have for a train set for kids.
