Don’t Throw Out That Container! #chickfilamomsDIY

I am a Chick-fil-A mom and receive products in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.

I’ve never been a crafty or artistic mom. Sure sometimes something comes to me but that is rare. I am more of a kit or follow the directions kinda girl when it comes to creativity.

As a Chick-fil-A mom though I was encouraged to up-cycle one of their soup containers into something. Now I have had a million ideas come to me when challenged but many were taken and others simply blew me away.

Seriously you have to check out the hashtag #chickfilamomsDIY on Pinterest and Twitter to see them.

For me, I decided to go super simple and up-cycle my Chicken Tortilla soup container into a… Drum Roll…  snack container. Yep thats it. For me though its invaluable as all three of my kids takes a snack to school for what they call a “working snack” (meaning they can eat a snack while they work) and they all prefer bowls to bags. It is hard to find smaller containers that are easy to open and when I saw this Chick-fil-A bowl, I knew it was perfect.

So not only am I saving money on buying snack bags or containers but I am helping the planet by re-using! Yeah me!

Have you ever up-cycled something?

  • I am totally on board with this idea. Whenever possible, I save the containers. For example, some of the best containers come from the Chinese restaurant. They have these heavy duty plastic containers for the hot & sour soup. They make excellent containers for everything. I put left over spaghetti sauces in the these and freeze. Or perhaps, I put veggies that I partially used (eg, cucumber) in it and store in the fridge for later. These containers can also be used for planting herbs in the kitchen. They are great!

  • This is really a great idea. My only problem is saving a container like that and the forgetting I have it when I need it.

  • I recycle empty containers all the time!
The containers in the pictures above look like the Boston Market & Brown's Chicken containers
that I wash and keep to reuse. I have kept leftovers in them. On holidays, I fill them up with leftovers that I give to family members and friends that want to take food home with them. This saves on aluminum foil and plastic bags, etc. plus I don't ask for them back. It also is less likely for the food to leak! It really is a win - win for both parties.
I also save the plastic coffee and the big coffee mate containers. We store Crayola markers and crayons in them so it's easier cleanup and storage for when the grandkids come over.
We have a small toy kitchen set for the grandkids to play with. I keep the empty plastic salt and pepper shakers and the plastic spices containers for them to pretend play with. I have more, but I think you get the idea ? ?

  • I am always up-cycling items to the point those around me may roll their eyes behind my back, haha! I refuse to trash all of those "fancy containers" and will reuse them or rinse them out to recycle.
