Your Guide To Saving Money This Father’s Day

We’ve now entered the month of June, which means Father’s Day is just around the corner. This is one of my most favorite days of the year, as it’s a chance to show dads everywhere just how truly appreciated they are.

There are many men out there that are extremely busy all the time and work their backsides off to help provide for their family and do things that often go unnoticed by their kids. So, it’s great to have a special day where you can shift all the focus onto them, and let them know their hard work does get noticed by you and the rest of your family.

Similarly, there are many people out there that are keen to get the dad’s in their life something special, but they don’t have enough money. Perhaps you’re trying to save up for something important, or money just might be tight at the moment. Either way, it can upset you as you think you won’t be able to make Father’s Day as special as you want.

Have no fear, this guide is here to help anyone in this situation. If money is an issue, don’t grab a tissue. There’s no need to worry, as you can put on a great Father’s Day and still save money at the same time.

Read through these tips and ideas if you want to complete Father’s Day on a budget:

Get Crafty With The Kids

As a mother, you have a dual responsibility on Father’s Day. Not only do you have to give your father a present and make him feel loved, but you also need to ensure your kids are doing the same for your husband and their father! This is particularly true for mom’s out there with young children who perhaps don’t understand the concept of Father’s Day. Or, maybe they do understand, they just don’t have any pocket money to pay for gifts, or you’re worried they’ll forget.

Either way, you want to make sure your husband wakes up on Father’s Day and is spoilt rotten by the kids. I always think it seems a bit fake when your children are young, and you buy presents but claim it’s from your kids. Like, will your five-year-old really buy their dad a new shaving kit? Save the actual gift buying for yourself, and get them a couple of presents from you to them. As for your kids, it’s time to make Father’s Day more personal, fun, and a lot less expensive.

Instead of going out and buying cards and gifts for your kids to give to their dad, get crafty with them instead. Sit down with them and get out all the arts and crafts so they can design their own cards for Father’s Day. I much prefer this idea as it gets them more involved and the cards they design will mean a lot more to their dad than one bought from a store. It shows him how much effort they went to, and he’ll be really appreciative. You could also get crafty with gifts too and try to get them to make presents for their dad. This could be a bit harder to do, but it’s definitely achievable. There are plenty of websites like powerfulmothering.com that provide examples of homemade gifts for young children to make. Look for inspiration online, and you will soon come up with plenty of crafty ideas that your husband will love.

The best thing about all of this is that it doesn’t cost much at all. If you have kids, you probably already have loads of arts and crafts stuff lying around anyway. In theory, you could make cards and gifts without having to go out and buy any extra stuff. But, even if you do, it will be a lot less than buying real gifts/cards, and you have the benefit of being left with an abundance of stuff to use when other events roll around! If you have teenage kids you may find it’s hard to get them to sit down and get crafty with you. In that case, you can save money by finding dad a Father’s Day ecard at Hallmark.

Look For Coupons Online

Coupons have been around for some time and this idea of ‘couponing’ has risen in popularity over the last few years. Couponing basically means you go around looking for coupons to give you deals on whatever you’re buying. Going to a restaurant? Hop online and look for a coupon to print out beforehand. Buying something from a website? Check for any relevant coupons before you purchase. I can usually find a coupon somewhere and there are discounted gift cards as well to buy. Not sure how to search? Just search up the store and promo code such as Lowe’s promo code.

It’s a very simple idea and one that can save you a lot of money this Father’s Day. Regardless of what you plan to do, take a look at some coupons on various sites to check for deals. In fact, you have sites like CouponSherpa.com with a Father’s Day specific category to look through. This may help you find some good Father’s Day deals and help you figure out what to do and what to buy. I love the idea of couponing as it allows you to buy gifts or go to restaurants that might have been out of your budget beforehand. You can really make the day big and special without worrying about the money in your bank account. It allows you to go for those bigger and more expensive gifts, but you don’t have to pay full price for them, which is always a massive bonus.

Give The Gift Of Food

Food is always a great idea if you’re ever trying to save money while giving gifts. It’s cheap, it can be personal, and it will always be well received. The trick is to make the food yourself, which gives it that extra special feeling. This is an idea you can use yourself or with your children too. Nothing shows your appreciation for your Father more than giving them a box of homemade cookies or brownies.

As mentioned in the first idea, it’s always better to get your kids involved when giving Father’s Day gifts. Bring them into the kitchen to help make something for their dad. Then, they can proudly bring it to him in the morning, and he’ll be amazed that they helped you with it. It will be a really special moment, and your child will feel so happy, as will your husband. Have a look at sites like flora.com for some baking and cooking ideas that you and your kids can do together if you’re wondering what to make. The great thing is, seeing as you’re cooking with kids, the recipes should all be very simple, which makes the whole process less stressful.

Of course, you could also take your kids out of the equation and make a food gift yourself. Even though your husband is not your father, you should still celebrate them on Father’s Day. The deserve presents and attention from you, as you appreciate how good they are to your children. So, one great idea is to take this idea of a food gift and make them breakfast in bed. Think about their favorite breakfast, and whip it up while they have a little snooze. Then, you and the kids can wake them up with their presents and a tray full of breakfast. A brilliant way to start the day, and in incredibly low-cost idea too.

Combine Your Money

This final tip is really more for people buying gifts for their dad or for people with older children that have jobs and can contribute their own money. Instead of everyone spending money on individual gifts, why not combine your money and get one huge gift? You and your siblings can combine your cash, or you and your children can put money together. Either way, you will now be able to get your dad/husband a big gift that they’ll truly appreciate.

This saves you money as you don’t have to buy that big gift all by yourself. The other alternative is that you spend the same amount of money on small gifts. While there can be some great small gifts, they do tend to be a bit naff sometimes. Often, you buy small Father’s Day gifts just for the sake of it, and they really see any use.

But, by combining your money, you get more out of your cash by being able to get a big expensive gift. This can be something they’ve always wanted or something they’ll definitely get a lot of use out of. It allows you to go big without breaking the bank. Plus, there’s something special about siblings coming together to get a joint gift for their dad, I know your father will enjoy it.

To sum up, it’s incredibly possible to save money on Father’s Day but still, make the day special and show the dad’s in your life how appreciated they are. Being rich and having lots of money to spend doesn’t mean you’re automatically going to make Father’s Day better than people without a lot of money. However, there’s no denying people with money to spend do have it easier and have less to worry about. Hopefully, these tips have shown you that you can still easily make the day as special as can be without needing to spend loads.
