If you are like a lot of other modern families, you might have found that it seems that technology has taken the spotlight in the life of your loved ones. Our phones are smart, our movies are instant, and our games are virtual. While there are a lot of great things that have come from the advancements of technology, there are some negative aspects to consider. Many families find that they are completely out of touch with nature, especially their children.
What ever happened to children playing outside with their friends until the street lights started to come on? Now, kids still play together, but they are each in their own homes so they can play games with each other via the Internet. If you are sick and tired of this and want to make sure that your family is getting in touch with nature once again, you will want to take note of the following advice.
Plant and Play with Seeds
If your yard is looking a little dull, you can spruce it up a little by planting a variety of wildflower seeds. You can look for specific seeds that will help you grow flowers that can attract hummingbirds or repel mosquitoes. If your yard already has a lot of your favorite flowers and you have young children, you could always purchase a variety of flower seeds that you can use for arts and crafts. Just make sure that you are talking with your children about how they can identify the various seeds that they are using and what their flowers would look like if they are planted in the right conditions.
Go on Camping Trips
In order to ensure that you are going to get the most out of the camping trip, you might want to steer clear of the overly commercialized camp grounds, as many of them have become more like resorts instead of camp grounds. Make sure that you finding camp grounds that have hiking trails, areas to ride bikes, and an area to play in the sand and swim in the water.
Watch Nature Documentaries
You might want to think about purchasing or renting some nature DVDs so you and the kids can still work on getting in touch with nature, even when you cannot get out somewhere. For example, if you are in the middle of an ice-cold winter or there has been nothing but rain storms and it seems that it is going to continue to be that way for a while, you will want to break out the movies that aren’t mind-numbing, that’s what documentaries are for! You should be able to find a wide variety of new and used ones so you can create the best possible collection for you and the kids.
Visit a Quality Zoo
If you want to take the family to the zoo, you will want to make sure that it is one that has put time, effort, and money into making sure that its visitors leave with a quality education regarding the animals that are kept there. Some zoos will have small informational plaques in front of each animal captivity, while others might have audio lessons that the family can listen to. This way, not only will you and the family get the chance to observe the various animals of the zoo, everyone will get to learn about where they are from, what they eat, how they travel, or even if they might be close to extinction.
It is important to make sure that you are getting the family involved in as many activities as possible in order to get your nature fix. The more you look for new and exciting things you can do with the family, the more fun you will have and the more the children will learn.

Such good ideas for kids of all ages. When our grandkids visit we do nature hikes and walks which we all enjoy.
great ideas
thank you dear
I think Plant and Play with Seeds is a great idea. It would be very educational to grow a vegetable garden also.
these are some really great ideals,,our town has a painted rock going on,,people paint and hide rocks all over town,,you can keep them or rehide them for others to find,,it has gotten families out of the house an in town looking for those rocks and posting hints where they hid rocks,,the kids are having a blast with it,,its called our town Rocks
Planting seeds is a really good idea. Honestly, we could just dedicate a portion of the garden to just this and plant lots of different things. Then, we wait and see what pops up :)
This sounds so nice I like to take daily walks with my grandkids
