My boys have been playing with LEGO bricks forever it seems like. We have been through set after set and smile after smile of them finally able to complete a set on their own. I have seen them build creations off of their imaginations and from looking at ideas in books.
What I love about LEGO is there are so many different sets that really no matter what your kid is into, there is a set for them. The LEGO City line is one of my boy’s favorites because it features all fun things you’d find, drive and see in a city.
One of the newest sets my boys tackled was the LEGO City Coast Guard Headquarters set available at Walmart.
At 792 pieces it can seem overwhelming but what is awesome about LEGO sets is the instructions are awesome. In big sets like this with multiple things to build, you even get separate instructions for each piece and they are bagged separately.
So if your child just wants to build the helicopter, for example, he/she can easily build just that without worrying about losing pieces to something else or trying to find the instructions in a giant manual. Big LEGO sets like this too make it easy for multiple kids to build something on their own without building on top of each other.
My boys spent pretty much a whole day building this set and have spent every day since playing with it. This was actually too the biggest set they have worked together on without any adult help. There are so many finished pieces in this set and minifigures that after building it there are plenty of things for kids to play with.
My boys were super surprised too with how big the Coast Guard ship, they expected something smaller.
Here is our new entire LEGO City Coast Guard Headquarters set completed:
The LEGO City Coast Guard Headquarters set is also a great value for everything that is packed inside it. For the fun of building the pieces then playing with them and the endless fun that comes with playing with them. Kids can of course too rework the sets to whatever they can dream up. Oh and yes the boats do actually FLOAT in water too! My boys of course had to test them out in the bathtub, but did make sure to tell me they need to be dried off afterwards.
