Do You Really Need To Give Up Fitness Through Pregnancy?

Once most women fall pregnant, they see it as an excuse to stop with their fitness program and start eating for two. But is that really the best thing to do during pregnancy? Sure, you won’t be able to work out the same as your body will need to use a lot of energy adapting to its new condition. However, you don’t have to give up on fitness completely. Here are some great tips that can help you stay fit during the whole nine months of your pregnancy.

Follow Your Doctor’s Advice

Before you start to adapt your exercise and fitness routine, you now need to speak to your doctor. He or she will be able to check you over and make sure that everything is going to plan with the pregnancy. If not, then they may advise you to take things easy and not exert yourself while you are pregnant. If your doctor tells you that you are able to continue working out, then they should tell you how often and how intense you can take things.

Change Your Diet

If your doctor says it is perfectly fine for you to work out during your pregnancy, you will need to start to increase your calorie intake. That’s because your body will need a lot more energy than usual. Plus, it’s important that you get all of these extra calories from healthy sources. Rather than relying on fatty and sugary foods, you should look for high-energy foods that are packed full of nutrients. These include avocados, whole grain bread, and lean white meats.

Adapt Your Workouts

Now you need to find a mom workout that is suitable for pregnant women. Of course, some of these workouts need to take your large bump into consideration! It is important to remember that there are some exercises and sports that you should not do at any point of your pregnancy. These are high impact sports, such as soccer, gymnastics, and martial arts. You could easily get injured doing these sports, and that could put your baby at risk.

Listen To Your Body

Your body might find it difficult to work out as you move on through your pregnancy. It might get harder to achieve goals and targets as you did before, so you might need to ease off slightly. However, if you push your body to the point that things start to hurt, you need to stop immediately. As long as you listen to your body, you will be able to stay within your limits. But it’s important that you stop whenever you experience any unusual aches and pains.

Stay Well Hydrated

Your body will be under extra pressure when you exercise while you are pregnant so, as well as increasing your daily calorie intake, you also need to ensure that you stay well hydrated. Make sure you drink plenty each and every day even when you aren’t working out.

  • Great tips. When I was pregnant I started to do yoga, it was exactly what my body needed. As for food, it's very important not to overeat, it's not healthy
